UPVC window seals
 

Is it possible to replace them? We seem to have a draft coming through some of the windows. I think some will fix if adjusted but don't want to pull them in so tight that it causes the window to flex, a new seal might be the best bet I thought :)

Hi G, you can easily replace them as long as the fitter didnt bond the plastic beading to the frame.

You just simply lever the beading on the inside around the window which holds the rubber in place. Be short and sharp when pulling to "crack" the locking bead. Once off all around the glass you can remove the glass (making note of any packing shims) and replace the rubber.

The rubber is available from most upvc suppliers or ebey on a roll and is reasonably cheap.

Mmmmmm, I was meaning the seal that goes between the window (opening) and the frame. I think you're on about the seal to the glass? :confused:

one of my friends had a similar problem with an older upvc window, he spoke to a friend of his at work and was given a foam rubber strip to slide down inside the window rubber, pushing the seal out and making it tighter

Ah right G. Then thats a much easier fix. Either just change the rubber or insert a foam strip (both available off ebay).

Another option is to phyiscally pull the opening window tighter on to the frame. To do this just loosen the latch receiver in the frame, slide it inwards and re-tighten so the window has to be pulled harder to sit on the latch. But if the rubber has shrunk which it inevetably will, you will need to change it.

I've got similar problem with french doors I had fitted.
You can look from inside and just about see a slither of the outside down towards the bottom.
I'd call them back to fix, but buggers went titz up :thumbdown:

Wonder if one of the doors has just dropped a bit as no longer shuts perfectly, so wondering whether to just try and adjust or sort the seal out

just match up whichever looks most like your seal and match the colour of course.

Also if your door has dropped its not as simple as adjusting the hinges to lift it up. The whole strength of the door is in the glass. To adjust you will need to remove the beading and add/remove packing washers which are made of plastic and usually colour coded.

Also worth checking G, is that the window is closing enough and pressing tightly on to the seal. If not just adjust the catch receiver t pull the opening window/door tighter.

Mate,that sounds like it needs adjusting on the bottom hinges to bring the 2 doors together. Do you live far from CMCC ?
