Problem with a Novak esc

I have had it runing but the motor was making a noise like it was hitting some thing on the way round and getting really hot !!!!!!!
Any ideas ? im guessing it must be a motor problem not esc?

Is it a new set-up or have you been running it a while?

Second hand ..... ( as the guy said was working fine ) worked ok to start but the motor was hot after 5 seconds of running it seems like a short in the motor maybe ?

Is this installed in your car currently? or are you testing on the bench? If you are free reving the motor without load, eg - not in a car, you could well have caused some damage to the motor.

Depending on the exact noise it's making, I'd focus on the motor. If you've got another then swapping this out will confirm this straight away.

If not, try this;

You will be able to rotate the motor shaft by hand and it will tend to stop in fixed locations (where the magnetic fields are equal, i think that's right) Well you should get able 5-6 of these postitions throughout a complete rotation.

For each of these postitions, try starting the motor from a standstill with a very small amount of power. If you get a position that doesn't allow the motor to start, then you could be looking at a dead sensor in the motor. I've had this before and it does cause a fair amount of heat when running and produces a knotchy/noisy feel to the motor.

I think I've explained that OK, if not let me know and I'll try again. :-)

It is in the car but have taken it out to make sure the motor bolts are not touching and they are not moves free by hand so i would guess the moise is coming from inside ie top end

Also going on that extra detail, it could be a collapsed bearing.

now it is at the point where them otor doesnt want to turn stutters to move then stops and goes or doesnt move at all lol .... what fun .....

As an addition to what Phil has suggested, ensure that the sensor cable is plugged in properly, and early Novak motors (SS/Velocity) had sensor wires which were not easily replaced. Having used them in my touring car, I found them to be a little prone to damage - check them specifically where they exit the motor.
