Ellis X6 kit & Old B4/X6 - What do I really need.

Hi.

I've pre-ordered the Ellis X6 kit to update my 1st gen X6.

I know the kit comes with lots of extra bits, but what if anything should I replace as I build the kit up from my old X6, as i'll be using all the b4 parts from my old X6 to go with the new X6

I have already sorted:

All new gears / idler gear for the gearbox.
A full set of new bearings.
New front wishbones.

Is there anything else (B4 wise) I should really be replacing on the new build ?

Thanks.

Andy.

Rod ends? Always good to change to reduce slop, I'm a big RPM fan for these. Other than that's you're covered :)

Come on Super Dan!!! They are already in the kit........... :p

Cheers Dan :)
Might super glue up the old servo saver too, rather than replacing it, I know that's one of your 'top-tips' :)

Just don't want to buy anything that I don't really need, also don't want to forget to get anything I do need !

Ah balls, if you send me an Ellis kit I'll know fo sure ;)

Andy, you're right though I try not to mention now as everybody knows about :p

Where will you be racing it next?

Hi Dan.

Will be running it at the next Bury indoors (Jan 24th I think) :) See you there ?

Andy.

If I bought an Ellis Kit and new front arms, I'd spend the two bucks on a new bulkhead. The hinge pins holes from the original are probably egg-shaped.

Cheers Chazz.

Yep, it was worn. Got one ordered, thanks :)

P.S. Any idea what Ellis is talking about drilling the front camber ball joints in the addendum (A13) ?

mark christopher 01-01-2010 09:46 PM

does he drill a hole in the ball cup to fit an allen driver in without poping off the ball?

_sleigh_ 01-01-2010 09:48 PM

Almost certainly that. Very useful for adjusting ballstud heights just before the start of a final/race.

andys 01-01-2010 10:50 PM

Still don't get it ! Am I bring a bit thick ?

How does drilling a hole enable you to alter the height of the inner camber link ?

Also, you don't need a hole to alter the length of the turnbuckle ?

I'm perplexed...

Using ball ends where the hex in in the head of the ball, by having a hole in the plastic you can alter height without having to pop the ball off.

YoungChazz 01-01-2010 11:26 PM

Big E drills a small hole down through the top of the ball cup, just big enough to fit the driver for the ball stud.

This allows Ellis to remove the stud from the tower to change the number of washers without removing/reinstalling the ballcup. Ellis adjusts front roll center often, and doing this saves time and wear on the ballcup. Saving wear makes the cup less likely to pop off and also reduces slop.

Look at any top pro's car, and you'll find very little slop anywhere, yet perfect freedom of movement everyhere. That's why Ellis includes two DDP 025 shim kits with the Championship Edition. You can get it just about perfect with those little .010" shims.

Cheers chaps. All makes perfect sense now, and a top tip to boot :)
