hi all going on what's happened at kiddy with people blowing speedo's the weathers not looking to good for this weekend at the moment:( for the bury regional just wondering what people use to try and keep the water out of the speedo

I've seen Blu Tac used.

blu-tac the mode and set buttons, and the LED holes.. anywhere water might be able to creep in.

if you can, mount the speedo on 3 or 4 bits of servo tape so if the worst happens it will not be 'sitting' in water on the chassis.

the biggest thing is making the best seal between your body and your chassis, once your car is good to go, duck tape the body on.

raise your ride height too, it does help

try and race a 'dry' line :p

but, the main thing is, YOU have to choose if you want to risk your equipment or not.

i use cotton wool aswell as it helps soak up the water before it gets to electrical bits to do damage.

a good dose of wd40 lol
any one who ever owned a mini always had a can in the car lol

its a water dispersant for those who not in the know
or to fill the gaps silicon sealant ( kitchen & bathroom)

Also put velcro around the outside of your chassis and on the inside of your body shell.

o and put ur receiver in a balloon, sounds stupid but it works!

All these ideas are great... but if your undertray fills with water (as mind did at the weekend) and your batteries short how can you prevent this from happening?

There comes a point when there is just too much water, one idea which would have helped yesterday would be to seal the holes on the body where the steering arms poke out but… you wouldn’t make it around the first corner however! :D

I wonder if some holes at the back might have let some water run out... yesterday there was just too much water on the track, plus as Chris says sticking to the racing lines is a good idea, something I'm not proficient at just yet.

Although yesterday... never mind the racing line... there wasn't even a "dry line" to stick to!

To stop your undertray from flooding out one or to pin holes inder each cell hole for th water to drain out.

Water resistant electrics is the best answer, nothing is really water proof. :(

Just for information spektrum receivers seems to be quite resistant, Jim will vouch for this, as he took his apart ofter round 2 to pour the water out of it, and it had been sealed with blue-tak! :o :o

if i remember correctly the mini receiver ( cant remember the number) is proofed/coated against nitro spills so must be relatively waterproof.

also with regards to balloon just make sure you vent it now and again as condesation builds up i found and this is basically water :(

I use a 35mm film canister for the reciever, it fits in snuggly then i have a small hole at the back for the aerial and a slightly larger hole for the other wires. I seal the holes with bluetack :)

Havnt quite figured out how to waterseal the speedo yet as the XXX-4 has a lovely big hole for the motor to let water run up onto the bit the speedo sits on :P

as long as water doesnt get in speedo,servo,reciever.then i woudn't worry about anything else.i ran lazer zx5 in the wet with no under tray.didnt waterproof anything:wtf: ran as sweet as a nut;) i use novak gt7 speedo,ko servo,spektrum reciever:cool:

Do everything you can think of, its worth it.

But really, how many times are we likely to run in the wet? Talking from my own point of view, if it rains for anything other than a national then I won't even attend... if it rains during a meeting, I may do one run in it if the track is a national track (as it could rain during the national, especially Southport), then go home.

I think the moral of the story is, always use protection if you plan to get your bits wet!;)
