Rim holes for buggy tyres
Hi, should all buggy tyres be fitted to rims with holes drilled in?
Or is it personal choice, can anyone tell me the pros n cons to either? Hope this is posted in the correct section, mods please move if wrong |
i always drill my rims if they arent already drilled, about 1mm or so, you can always plug the hole for wet days, wet inserts are not good as they will gain a lot of weight as they fill with water, all i can suggest is you drill them and try them open then sealed and see what is best for you on the track you run on.

Thanks Matt, that makes sense.
I run on a small indoor carpet at broxtowe With only 3 x 5min runs per week with lots of different setups to try, it's gonna take awhile to get it right. |
no worries, if you are indoors then i think your car will feel more settled if the rims are drilled ,, have fun!

the jconcepts rulux wheels come pre drilled if that helps

I've started to punch holes in the tyres instead of the rims. I don't know if it makes a performance difference but it does let any water out of the tyres.

tried that on my 1/8 buggy and it works really well, although i did have one tyre rip across the holed point during a jump when i had to give a stab of throttle to correct flight, tyre expanded and popped, just the once though.
