kyosho TF-5
hi just bought the above car , for a bit of fryday night action !!
i normaly race a mardave and tamiya minis , but as they wont let me run the brushless system in the mardave ( and im fed up with the g2 motor ) and im saving my tamiya m05 for another meeting ... i know its cheap but are they ok , as a little club racer ....all im gonna do is change the motor for a 15t , change the receiver to a speky one , and run it on lipo ....:) |
I used to run the race spec version of the shaft car (I assume you just bought the readyset) and it was one of the best cars I have owned. Handled well pretty much straight from the box, indoors or out.
Unfortunately it was never as popular as it deserved to be. Then they rushed out the Stallion belt-drive and it was a disaster. |
i m using the tf-5 ft version too.
but for drifting and i ve seen many tamiyas , yokomos and hpi pro D`s but my tf-5 owns them all ;> good choice man ! |

If you got a readyset the original esc wont last long with a 15turn motor :( best you can run is a good ballraced 19t. the cars are good and strong the competition is probably the strongest touring car thats made. |
ok cheers for your help .. ... i know its cheap , but are they resonably robust ....
also has any one got any set ups for carpet ....thanks |

Batteries in the wrong place too far out, if you look at a cyclone and most others the rear bulk head goes over the batts so they are closer to the centre line. The stallion ( i have one) has the batts sat next to the bulkhead and with NiMh's fitted you were a lucky boy if you didn't short them out and they had to be taped down as there was no battery strap like for the shaft car. The shock towers are crap to. With a lipo fitted it may be a different story but i don't do snoring cars any more, the stallion was a major contributing factor to my decision to run off-road, it was that bad.

Too expensive, too many plastic parts out of the box, handling was very nervous compared to the shaft car.
Shin edition had some major changes to address these problems but by then it was too late. I not even sure whether Kyosho Europe brought in any Shin Editions. EDIT: I think SimonW said it a lot better than me! |
Oh right!! not like Kyosho to rush things  i guess there was a reason for it?

Kyosho had spent a while developing the shaft car - which was great - then had to rush out a belt version - which was terrible. Similar problem hit them with the ZX-5. They took a while developing it while there were no real contenders in 4wd, then they debuted it at the worlds where the rear-saddle BJ4 and Yokomo dominated. The standard ZX-5 was almost immediately outdated. Kyosho must have bought a faulty crystal ball... |
The Shin is a great car.
quicker than the shaft drive car. In the right hands it can beat any car. In germany there is a young guy been beating rhinehard and co. we jutst dont have any sponsored drivers in uk or you might see some results. You are right about the nimhs shorting out on the original stallion though. |
