help choosing 1st 1/8th brushless buggy

hi guys im looking in to buying a rtr version and wanting a bit of help.

there are 2 cars in my price range a kyosho inferno ve or a caster fusion ex-1 and cant decide between them.

i know that kyosho have been round yours but they look around similar quality.

i wouldnt mind 1 some1 has converted from nitro but wanting in good condition and a good chassis too.

my budget is £380 can push another £70 for batts n charger so what do you guys recon?

thanks for having a look and hope some1 can point me in th right direction.

I'm new to electric 1/8th having just bought a Caster truggy for my son for christmas.

I'd say if you only have £70 for batteries and a charger you might need to think again.

I've ordered from Hong Kong (cheapest place on net) £89 delivered for 2 x 7.4v lipos to power the Caster. Same cells are like double that price in the UK then add a decent charger £30 - £80 I'd say roughly..

cheers for the info ive decided to stick with what i know and go with a nitro for now as the club i want to goto runs both.prob end up converting it next your when got abit of money saved up.

Hi am new too I would buy a second hand losi 2.0/ or Xray any model/ Hong Nor Cr, and convert any of these to leccy with the conversion kits, you will have enough money left over for a lipo, it will work out cheaper, thats my view, I bought the Losi 2.0 £170, conversion kit £55, work the rest out.cheers jon

might do guna get nitro 1st ive got a hong nor x1 cr all ready if no1 buys it considering converting that

JonyNitro 18-11-2009 08:53 PM

well it works out cheaper, so it only benefits your pocket, plus what set up combo you using and what lipo?

ch!3f 18-11-2009 09:47 PM

im not at minute will be sorting it out next year now

just a word of warning the lipos from hong kong might not run the 8th cars as my dad bought some of them and they was rubbish really :(

Marvin 19-11-2009 04:43 PM

It does depend on what you buy! Sure, if you're only willing to spend peanuts on what should be ~1/3 of the value of the total car, then they aren't going to be any good. If you spend a 1/3 of your budget on batteries, the that'll serve you in the long run.

When I say I've ordered from HK I dont mean I ordered snide cells they are Intellect 7.4v 5000mah 40c just cost half the price than they do here. Seems to good to be true, we'll see if they ever arrive lol

I bought the Intellect lipos form Hong Kong too. The 5000 mah 40C

They are awsome man in the Cat Sx.
Balanced first time
Half the price, well worth it

Take a few weeks but worth the wait

The ones I ordered came in about 2 weeks from order not been used in anger yet as they're for a christmas present. Its criminal how much cheaper they were though, the profit on those should be going in a till in the UK....

What do you mean balanced first time? They're going to balance if you have a balance charger aren't they!

lambchops 27-11-2009 03:22 PM

I also have bought a set of the zippy 5000 40C lipo's to try. Seems to be mixed feelings on them but for the money its worth a punt.. famous last words as MMM goes pop

Marvin 27-11-2009 03:25 PM

If they are looked after properly, 40C Zippys will be good. Very occassionally you get a duff cell from the factory, but considering the tiny amount you pay vs other 40C LiPos, it is worth it.

I have a Hot Bodies Ve8 and an X1CR converted with the RCProduct Designs Kit.

The Ve8 is a much better car to race, but the Hong Nor is really strong, its also very cheap and you can pick up second hand ones pretty cheap now.

Great battery the Intellect :p

What i ment was by balanced was when i stuck the battery on the Core charger and balanced it. Both the cells balanced at 4.2v perfect for the first charge and still are.

Just saying there very good cells for the money :p

Marvin 27-11-2009 06:46 PM

Well, of course they will! The Core balances the pack as it is charged, and then finishes the process at the end of charging. If they aren't coming off at 4.2V/cell then your charger isn't doing its job correctly.

offroadrc 27-11-2009 09:58 PM

i only use zippys they are very good and cheap, in 1/10 and 1/8.
i just put 3 hardcase 2s 4000mAh 25c in serie on my ezrun 150A medusa 36-70 1600kv motor in my rc8te and it's working great. note, the esc is running without the fan and it stayed cool

jasonwipf 05-12-2009 05:32 AM

Same here, the zippies are 1/2 to a 1/4 th the price of some packs in the U.S. and they run fine on our cars. the cells go bad about as often as the higher price packs but for the price I can bust up 3 of them for every one of the fancy name brand packs and so far im still ahead money wise.
