zx5 front springs on the short side?
 

hi all,anybody found front springs to short? ive had to wind the ride height adjusters onto the last thread just to hold the spring in place,no thread left to compress spring for ride height:wtf: kit ones are fine.ive only tried light greens and found this problem:wtf: anybody:confused: if this is normal im considering buying rear blues and cutting them to length to use on front.

think this is the reason people did the front ball cup mod. I can't remember the part number off hand, but i you search in the kyosho area it should be listed in the older zx5 thread.
basically it uses a longer plastic ball cup on the end of the shock giving the front end more droop and ride height. You hopefully won't have to wind down the adjuster so much to get the nose off the floor.

But yes, the front harder springs are very short. I only ever run the kit fronts as they work better than the rest anyway.

the light greens you are asking about do seem to be a bit to short so we stuck with the kit ones and got them working very well. the part number jim is on about is la43 which gives a longer ball cup for the front to improve droop although 3 mm needs to be removed.

i use the longer ball joint ends,but still found it a problem with the light greens,i got round it by using a plastic o ring under the adjuster,which give me a bit of adjustment.:rolleyes: wonder if the softer springs are the same length as kit ones.and its only a problem with light greens:confused: cant understand kyosho's thinking on this one.:wtf:

all the other springs are the normal lenth

Does any one have a conversion chart for kyosho to Losi or Associated springs or know what lb rate the Kyosho springs are?

I am now trying Associated blue at front/Silver rear.

Interesting table - shows how close the Kyosho springs all are top one another! No wonder I always found the Lazer worked best on kit springs all round.

Surprising that the #75 light green actually worked out softer than the #70 kit silver - perhaps something to do with the length, or maybe the manner of measurement (length shouldn't actually make a difference in normal use, it is the number of coils and the type of wire that matters). I'm not 100% sure that measurement is right - the #75 did seem stiffer to me but it could be in my head!

PS W5181 is front springs, W5183 is rear springs.

I had seen that, but the lb rates seem very stiff compared to those offered by both Losi & Associated for Off Road.

The Assoc blues I have just got are the hardest they do and are rated at 4.2lb, with the stiffest rears at 3.03lb , Losi seem similar.

According to that table the lighest K springs are 7.4lb going up to over 9lb:wtf: . This seems wrong to me that the other major players are virtually identical in their offerings and Kyosho start on that chart way, way above anything else.

I did e-mail Kyosho Uk but all I got back was a list of springs available with the kyosho rating which doesn't mean anything

If anything the Kyosho springs are relatively soft, I know someone locally compared them to the Schumacher spriungs with his own top-secret measuring method. He reckoned the harder Kyosho springs (either Light Green or Dark Green, can't remember) were similar to the medium Schumacher (grey? not sure).

Can you not double up on the shock collars and still use the original spring, even if it is short? A few people have done it on AE shocks for front green springs as they are quite soft!
