SC10 gear diff in a B4?
Has anyone tried this for high traction tracks?
I know you neet the T-plate, the diff itself and the gearbox housing to fit it all. Just wondering if anyone had thought of this before as well... |
You also require a set of outer bearings to go round the diff as the B4 ones are too small.

I ran a geared diff in my B4 at Bury on Sunday. It was a bit noisy to begin with but now its alot better. I will run it each week now indoors at Formby and Bury and outside at Southport when we get the chance.

Pretty sure I have it right:
9827 - Geared Differential Set 9826 - Transmission Casing for Gear Diff 9818 - Rear Chassis Brace/T-Plate NA - 10x16x5mm Bearings x2 Then the grease or silicone oil of your choice, if you intend use it. |

I use 1000wt oil as that is what was recomended to me by MK racing.
Seems ok to me! The instructions talk about just using black grease so I presume either is fine. |
I tried 1 000cps but found it too thick (as I was racing on indoor slippy stuff), so I put TL 30WT shock oil (roughly like 500cps) and it felt really good.

I have heard most people run the AE black grease in the gear diffs as they leak quite a bit using diff oils.

The black grease is recommended in the associated manual for the new B4.1
Base plates are out of stock at the moment as I have got every component bar the plate :( |
Try Model World in Maidstone, they have all the bits for the Conversion

You can dremel a B4 base plate so the new gearbox fits

I tried my SC10 diff in my B4 today at Bury indoors and I was impressed. I ran the diff as RTR (no oil, just black grease) and the car didn't 'diff out' at all which was a nice suprise and the handling was very close to the ball diff. The only thing that seemed to be effected was the low speed turn in which made the car tend to be a bit keener to clip the apex but I wouldn't say it was anything bad, just different.
I'd say Bury is a medium grip track and I'll also be trying it at York indoor (Polished floor + carpet), Rossendale (Carpet) and a local polished floor track so I should get a good idea of how it performs. I have a feeling the biggest gain will be on the polished floor track but its all to try :). |
