motor timings
 

hi all, ive recently just converted my losi xxx into a mid motor mounted car. at the minute it runs backwards cos the gear box is on the other side of the car in order to get the motor in mid position. how do i sorted the timing out on the motor to get it running the same as normal but backwards??

Wouldnt you just swap the endbell around so it if facing the opposite way. This would make the current go in the motor the other way making it turn in the opposite direction.

thats what i thort i should do but i didnt no if it was recommended. lol will it still run the same top speed and torque?

Another option is to "flip" your XXX gearbox, so you don't need to mess with the motors.

Fairly easy to do with a dremel and a couple of hours spare time.

I am not sure if it will have the same top speed and torque because of the fact everytime i accidentally swap it around, I switch it right back again, because i dont realy want to be driving my B4 backwards round a track.

Just turning the endbell around will make no difference, it's the same as just swapping over the motor leads.

To set the timing you should be able to see how much advance there is by looking at how the endbell lines up with the can. There should either be a zero timing mark on the label, if not look for the can indent which is also at zero. Measure how much the endbell zero timing mark on the side of the endbell (in line with the screw fixing) and the zero mark on the can are out of alignment. Loosen the endbell and move it clockwise until the timing marks are out of alignment by the same amount the other way. Tighten it up and you are ready to go.
