X6 Wing Gurney

Hey there
Looking to see what people ideas are with regards to how much gurney you should run.
Basically i cut mine off my wing all together which was when i was running indoor racing with some big air jumps and seemed perfect but now im
back on the damp astroturf i seem to be struggling to find rear end grip.

Do you think buying another wing with full gurney will help me get that rear end tracktion or will it not make alot of difference?

whats the rest of youe setup? as i always run with no gurney at all and have never lacked rear end grip in any conditions.

I would try a new wing and slowly cut it down to get the desired result. I find the wind gurney makes a big differance.

i am being thick but what is the gurney,i thought it was the angled plasic bits that you can run under the wing:blush:

It's what we refer as the vertical part at the back of the wing. I think all the team uses no gureny normally and only a few mm when running more than normal. It can only really work at speed though i.e. over jumps and a little at the end of a straight, it won't do anything in a slow speed corner and really not for traction.

Not knowing you're setup for traction I'd go to shorter wheelbase, E speed hangers high, less antisquat, 0 camber, make sure you're running it at half decent ride height as running too low will rob you under weight transfer.

The other thing is the weight added everyone describes is for dry conditions, the VERY first thing I do now when it's wet is remove weight from the front and add a little to the back (around motor and under cells, take away from under the servo in my case) this make a massive difference.

how apt that it is Dan offering advise about the Gurney flap... :woot:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurney_flap
invented by Dan Gurney

though it doesn't have the same aero effect at our scale, its more of a drag enhancer to generate rear end

Thanks for using the word apt and not ironic, if there's one thing I hate it's (war, plague, pestilence) it's an Alanis Morissette style use of the word ironic.

Chris, you making any guest appearances with an X6 this winter, if you want sorting out for a Worksop round or the Petit let me know and we'll sort you out. You must be dying to relive the 24hr race moments?

I could do with my batteries back from Mr Sleigh though :p
