Printing Decals On Inkjet Printer

Just wondering whether anybody out there had worked out how to do white decals on clear vinyl, using an inkjet printer at home? Or do I have to take the file to a professional printer?

Any advice would be welcome, I am trying to get King Cab decals printed before 22nd November, so I need to get moving on this one!!

Hi, i have experimented for some time with decal printing on an inkjet printer but to print white on clear vinyl you will need white ink.

Most home or small office printers dont have the facility to do this and you will need to go to a proper decal printing shop. Also white ink is very, very expensive and even if your printer can accept it, it will cost a small fortune.

:cry:Not what I wanted to hear:cry:

What about those printers some of the hobby stores sell, does anybody know if they print white?

Neither will most printers have a printer that can print white on clear. Usually its print on clear as reverse, then backed up with white backing. As said earlier, "white ink" is very expensive. I work in a medium size print and sign manufacturing plant and even then, we outsource anything that needs to be "printed" white.

You will no doubt find a provider that can do it, but again, at a price you may not agree on.

Damn, I knew this was going to prove to be difficult!

So if I print in reverse I will have to put the decals on the inside of the body right? And then do a back up coat in white. Hmmm, the body I want to do is a Tamiya King Cab and looking at images of others there are only a few areas I would have to mask to do a white back up coat effect, it might just work and then I could either put the other decals on the inside of the body as well or just print them normally and stick on the front. I think I might just leave the decals with small white areas off!

google "alps printer" its no longer made but if you look long enough you can find a used one or a rebadged one from a different company.
