Yokomo YR-4

Does anyone know where I can get hold of spur gears for my YR-4 Touring Car? I have a 81T at the moment but running in the Stock class means that I physically cannot fit a big enough pinion to gear correctly for the new breed on 13.5T motors.

Any help would be much appreciated as this car still perform really well - just need some top end grunt!!

get ya wallet out and buy a proper car  or get ya RB5 back on the track

you need a shambles way of thinking with ya spur gear.

or drill and tap the hex on the shaft and use a kimborough spur gear ? (very ocd ;) but should work)

Missed those Timbo!!!

I need something small, say 68, 70, 72ish. Need to be able use a large pinion gear. I can only get a 28T pinion in with the 81T spur that I have. My 13.5Turn losi is way under-geared with this.

i wouldnt have thought you'd need to drop the spur that low maybe 75 or 78, your not that far off the pace are you :D

That was a 68 in the link, did it end?

CougarRob 11-11-2009 04:33 PM

It was a 86T spur - but thanks for the heads up. Still looking I'm afraid. :(

Yep I have one of these cars, bought it off tamiya club for club racing, but getting ready to convert it over to a latemodel for some oval racing.:D
All I would need is a body and the track is supposed to get some in soon.

I bought it because it was the only saddle pack touring car I could find.
It even has the japan shocks on it as well, and it came with aluminum arms too. I thought it was a cool find.:o

Guys at the track said I would have the advantage running
a car like this on dirt oval. We shall see then...
It's a very smooth dirt oval not that dusty.
They are running silicone coated foam tires.
But I'll be running against TC3's and X-rays. But I'm not skeered because I am running brushless as well...lol
I'm currently re-building everything on it getting it prepared for the track etc..

CougarRob 04-12-2009 11:13 AM

Are any of you guys running fairly quick brushless motors? I seem to be having diff issues when using 6.5, 5.5 or 4.5T motors (i admit that the 4.5T was a bit too much!!). Anyway, the front diff seems to get really graunchy and tight after each 5min heat using the 5.5 or 6.5T motor. I dont have a one way or a slipper clutch. Am i just building them badly (never had issues with offroad buggy ball diffs) or is the YR4 just not designed for 'modern' power and the high grip carpet surface I run on? Any ideas??

B44&501xRacerEX 04-12-2009 05:39 PM

I ran a 6.5T brushless motor in mine before, and yes the diff balls
have grinded thier way into the diff plates. So the previous owner
must have put tungsten diffballs in this thing. It's still runable,
but I've went down to a A.I. Pro 9.5 LRP system instead.
I'm running a 23 tooth pinion and 78 tooth spur gear. Without a slipper clutch.
I dont know if I'm overgeared or not, I'm just gonna run it until it thermals
then I'll re-gear this thing. Thank god for thermal shutdown.
If it never themals then I may be ok on my gearing.

Here's my finished project, tried to get that logo painted the best I could.
Made stencils out of notebook paper and got to painting yesterday.
Looks like a graphitti wall sort of but I feel I did good on it.
