Anyone run sensorless?

Ive got a Mamba Max ESC and want a BRCA legal motor to go with it should I race anywhere else other than a club night,

so my question is, does anyone run sensorless and what motor do you use?

I did use a Mamba Max esc and an orion motor and was quite rapid, but the esc cant handle any other manufacturers motors as well as it works with its own design of motors. The castle 5700 motor works well and can easily beat a 6.5 motor but is not legal anywhere except at club.

I over heated and blew up two Mamba esc's and thats when I decided to upgrade to the sensored esc which is much smoother and much better.

i have had my mamba castle combo 1 of them 2years and 1 that a year old still going strong and good esc never over heated any of mine apart from 2 traxxas vxl esc fryed them both

The speedo has been fine for me, I could do a lot worse to it than using it in a 2wd with a 7.4V Lipo!

there good mate i have 3 combo of them . i was going to try it in my 4wd what do you think or use my vxl sytem or mamba 77700kv combo

I used to run Tekin Redline sensorless in my B44. Now I run the sensored, but I have it in dual mode, so it's sensorless as soon as it's rolling anyway!
Sensorless in off-road is fine in my book.

I used to use the tekin redline sensorless motors, they have very soft power delivery not snappy like sensored - good on shiny floors. I used a 448 for indoors, about 6.5 power.

I think the current IFMAR 4wd 10th offroad world champ might do.

Yes, Steve Davies used to use one in his SC10, and was more than quick enough at club with it. He was using a Speed Passion/EZRUN Sensorless 9.5T setup.

Any sensored motor will work with a sensorless speed controller, the sensors just wont be used and thats all.

hope this helps

Only sort of. They will work, but it won't be good. Motors specifically designed for sensorless operation tend to be a lot smoother than those designed to be run sensored. This is done to reduce the cogging effect sensorless motors can exhibit at low speeds.
The result is that a sensorless esc can run a sensored motor but it will be quite jerky and cog badly compared to running a sensorless one.

si is the ezrun a 480 can the 9turn i have seen a mtroniks p2 ride 480can but you get adaptor to turn it to 540 5800kv will you have a look plz and sensorless motor are smooth as silk

Si Coe 14-11-2009 07:48 PM

I think its smaller than 480 - maybe as small as 380, but the fins make it a direct 540 fit. In cars like the CAT SX where the motor is clamped the Ezrun fits perfectly
Mtroniks did do a motor which was actually 480 sized, and bolts onto a special plate to make it fit 540 sized screw holes, but this is totally different from the Ezrun in design. I also don't know how it would perform having never seen one in use.

Just fit the 5.5t Ezrun. At least that will fit, I know it works etc.

stampede vxlboy 14-11-2009 07:55 PM

if the ezrun a 380 that fits in my xxx4 buggy the mtroniks 480can p2ride should fit without the adaptor as the 9 turn ezrun fits but it too slow mate

Si Coe 14-11-2009 08:07 PM

No you have it confused. The adaptor is only there because the motor is too narrow and therefore holes drilled in the motor plate would be too far apart. The adaptor simple spaces the motor mounting screw holes further apart.

In any car except a XXX4 I'd say it would be fine, but since the Losi uses its own motor mount plate too I can't be sure.

I'd get a different motor, or as I said use the 5.5t 540 sized Ezrun.

si if the 9 t ezrun fit in xxx4 380 then the 480 can should kit or am i totally wrong

Si Coe 14-11-2009 08:20 PM

I don't know. Given that there are lots and lots of other motors to use that you can confirm will fit the car why buy the one motor you can't. Seems like a bad idea to me. Yes it should work, but why take the risk? It might be a bargain but it it won't fit it isn't is it?
Just stick one of your existing stock of 540 sized motors in there, you must have one that works (like my old 5.5t for example) and if you must get this Mtroniks put it in another one of your cars .

stampede vxlboy 14-11-2009 08:29 PM

i am running out of motors for my car 6 cars and 3 motor . but i got new motor speed passion orion vortex but start cogging bad when set of because the esc is not sensored. but i have not got a esc to run it on apart from sensorless. and it was cheap but i will leave it alone thanks anyway mate

stampede vxlboy 15-11-2009 12:36 AM

si would you buy another c4bigstick 5700?:eh?::confused:
