Look into a second hand KO esprit 2 or a sanwa gemini 2. Will give you pretty much everythign you will need. Plus it sticks.

Unfortunately, the Futaba 3GR, which used to be a pretty reasonable price in the UK, is now a crazy price after the exchange rate collapsed.

Since you are quite new to the sport you may find the change to wheel quite easy. Best advice is to try someone elses handset in your hand, maybe have a run with their car, see if you get along with it.

KO radio's seem to be quite cheap lately. Picked up 1 for £60 with Xtals and a receiver not too long ago

I picked myself up a mint 3GR FS (40mhz fully synth) off ebay for £42. It was sold as damaged, as there had been a crash and the radio didnt work after that. I got futaba to replace the reciever board for £30.

You should be fit to pick up a decent 2nd hand radio for under £100 although I doubt you'll get a 2.4ghz for that price.

Carl, you could get someone to let you borrow a steerwheel 2.4ghz to try .......... I know someone who has a couple for sale at the moment and i'm sure he'd be willing to let you try-before-you-buy ;)

If you wanted a 2.4gHz wheel radio cheap, Spektrum are about to release both the DX3E and the DX2S.
