I can't give you the specifics as it's only something I was watching in the background but as I understand it, there is no such thing as a digital aerial.

If your analogue reception is good already across all channels and in different weather conditions, then I believe there is no need to replace it at all....

It was a Watchdog program a few weeks back so may still be on iPlayer...

when they mention 'digital' aerials, I beleive they mean that they have a better reception to get a cleaner signal for the digital boxes, as some peoples aerials are over 20 years old, and just won't cut the mustard.

Best prices I found were Screwfix, and they do loft mount kits, some came in under £20

i have done a little research into this, as I am fitting one at my parents house this weekend....and wanted to avoid perching on the end of a ladder too far up to survive the fall!

Basically, Digital TV aerials to work properly (or to get reception at all) need to be outdoors. Roof tiles, pipework & electrical wires commonly found in your loft can all play havoc with your reception.

The Digital Aerial is best suited to be mounted around 10m off the ground, and free from obstructions such as roof lines, trees etc.....

my tv reception was shit ever since i moved into this house & i thought i'd definitely need a new ariel. well i got my vision box last year, plugged it in & its spot on :thumbsup:

i'd try your existing ariel first ;)

dont forget for best results it needs to be free from obstruction between the aerial and the transmitter. and dont forget to add between 3 and 5 degrees to the angle of the aerial at the top of the mast and keep to a minimum number of joins as you will loose about 2db though each connecter (coax plug).

No such thing as a digital aerial. people are using the name to sell products for extra money. what they are are wideband high gain aerials, thats all. if you already have a good aerial of the correct group for your local transmitter dont bother changing it. you would gain more changing the cable to a digital satellite cable such as RG6U or if you have more money, CT100. if you have an amplifier splitting between rooms, updating that can help sometimes as some old ones produce a bit more 'noise' in the signal. newer amps also tend to use the satellite style 'F type' plugs which give less loss than normal coax plugs
