The VeloC2

Its here.

I hope to release this soon, if the reception is good.

Heres the spec of the prototype:
- Twin Deck, 3mm delrin, slim chassis.
- Laydown front shock absorbers
- Delrin front turnbuckle mount, Rear shock tower, shock-rockers.
- Uses B4 and GT2 parts.
- 3 x 3 saddle pack cells
- Cool carbon battery mount

For the release version, I plan:
- Carbon moulded chassis- Hybrid mix to product stronger and lighter chassis, secret formula.
- Carbon parts
- More blue bits ;)

sorry for the darkness, I will take some more after and during its first test-run ;)

BenG 19-04-2007 08:41 AM

Also sorry for the terrible mess, the soft picture (My D50 was on its last legs battery wise) and the yellow pages haha :D

yes my workroom is a tip, but I know where everything is :D:D

It looks very long, what is the wheelbase compare to other cars in the same class, it might just be an optical illusion:D

Hope it works for you mate, but i think you should reduce the toe out up front;) .

haha, yeah the toe-out is due to me waiting for GT2 steering parts haha.

Wheel base wise, it is longer, in fact about 5cm longer, but still well under the BRCA length limit ;)

bigred5765 19-04-2007 09:37 AM

5cm longer than a b4??
it will handle like a truck
but well done on the work, looks like u put in some hours

mattym0310 19-04-2007 09:59 AM

it looks like you pot alot of time an efoort in to the car. let us all know how it handles!

BenG 19-04-2007 10:13 AM

Thanks for the comments.

i will let you all know how it goes soon as I get a shell made, a 4t brushless strapped in, and batley is attacked haha.

Yes it may be possibly less responsive than a B4, but I have the option to reduce the length as much as I want as its made of delrin, which is fantastic for prototyping.

Its taken about 50 hours to get to this stage, and 3 years planning haha.

you need shorter turnbuckles on your rocker links for the inboard shocks.

how come? Shocks work perfect at the moment, theres around 5 cm of travel, I will be putting bigger pistons in and 30wt oil too when I run it.

daz 19-04-2007 10:49 AM

I always wondered who nicked me nans tights!!!!!!!!!

Lee Martin 19-04-2007 10:59 AM

can someone tell me the benefits of doing this?

jim76 19-04-2007 11:03 AM

god that's long! will be great over bumps and sweepers, but i wouldn't want to drive it round a hairpin!

3 point turn anyone?!!!

daz 19-04-2007 11:05 AM

You could always cut it in half and make in into one off those bendy buses!!

Because it got more droop than Daz's Nans granny knickers dude

Col 19-04-2007 11:18 AM

I'm not sure about that: daz'z nan is a "pocket nan" (she's really small) so there's not too much droop there...

BenG 19-04-2007 11:35 AM

hahaha.

Yeah, I will try the chassis at this length, and see if it will turn, although testing it on the workroom floor leaves me to think it inst so much larger (turning circle wise) than the B4. I will make a custom steering link thats wider, to give it more steering, and more aggressive handling, I will try a shorter chassis though, before I mould the carbon one up, just to be sure its right.

I think the skinniness adds to the illusion of it been a mile long.

Think how it can phsc out your competition. You qualified first, but you stretch the whole grid, and your already into the first corner before the race starts ahaha.

The 'nans knickers' are actually 'shock socks' they keep dirt off the shock shaft and threads so they function properly, and receive little extra wear, caused by nasty grit and muck.

BenG 19-04-2007 11:35 AM

oh DCM, I also shortened the turnbuckles, using TC4 one after I took this picture

BenG 19-04-2007 03:41 PM

Set a date for track test

29th April. D DAy. :D

Protect your windows, else they could betaken out when I do a jump at batley haha.

tc2k 19-04-2007 04:09 PM

I think the turnbuckles are too long. 5mm more than the standard B4 is a fair bit so may be a bit awkward in turns and looks rather boxy even though it is a prototype. Seems good though. Although Velo does mean bicycle in french so maybe a rename
