Where Are Your Diffs?
 
What diff height are most people running front and rear.

Running on hard clay tracks over here and was thinking of running the front diff low and the rear diff high.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On grass and astro track and even on indoor tracks atm i run them both low

I'm running high both ends at the moment, but will be trying low at some point. Depends whether it's dry or wet running as the astro turf I race at provides little grip in the wet

if the track is high grip then run low. If it is pretty lose then you may be better running the high location

With winter coming I'll be leaving them were they are.

But in the dry I'll change to low

Sorry if I sound thick, but as a cat newbie, how do you make the diffs high or low? :confused:

the diffs are held in by an excentric housing. this is adjustable in position to help get the belt tension as you want. but this can also be rotated to run the diffs in either a high or low position which alters how the car generates drive and grip

there is no set rule of thumb about diff heights it all depends on how the car feels its a very minor setup adjustment its one of those tunning aids that only realy make a diffrence when the car is pretty much there i personly run front low and rear high on polished floor but on flat grass i run both high on bumpy grass i run both low and astro i run front high rear low but the setup changes between tracks.

i would be more concered about roll centres and shock settings before even bothering with diff heights.

I normally run my diffs front low rear high,on the nationals I changed that to low/low because of the better shock performance with diff low in the rear.

low low on Matty's cars have never needed the extra grip at the rear,

Don't forget that changing the diff height has an effect on how much downtravel you can get away with. Keep an eye on the driveshafts (in terms of them possibly popping out of the outdrive) if you're going to run a high rear diff

Low all round for me though, it's the future :thumbsup:

I may give the low setting a try. Just need to sort the rear end out first as it's dancing around on a very bumpy track. 25w 3 hole etc. red springs. I think I may attack that tonight, change to the rear shock conversion and change the diff height

3 hole should be 30-32 wt oil for bumpy track, are they drilled

Always low. Even in low position they are quite high relative to the rest of the suspension.

Got a busy week for the car then..

New chassis, changing diff height, drilling pistons etc.

Congrats and looking forward to the Cat SX advancing more.. It must be in the A final at next years Euros.. Will there be a 2010 Cat?
