What DO I need to build an X6 please?
 

I guess this question has been asked very frequently but the more I've read posts on this subject the more I get confused. I appreciate everyone has a different opinion on what is needed to build a car because everyone's driving style may be different but essentially my question is this:

Other than a donor B4, Losi shocks and obviously an X6 Squared conversion kit what other parts do I need to build a good club-level car please? I want to get all the stuff in one go if at all possible as I hate having to stop a build part way through because I have to order x number of spacers/shims/pistons etc. For example I know from researching this that I should get the E-speed rear camber brackets but what length turnbuckles do I need as I'm guessing the B4 ones are too long.

Yes I would defo get the hangers. Just cut a couple of mm's off your longer B4 turnbuckles, that what I do.

The Losi shocks are not essential -- the AE ones work very well and the set-up sheet in your Kit should have settings for the AE shocks & springs. That will save a ton of money to use for:

5660 rear axles (A very good option in U.K.)
2601 front axles (trailing) (Not so necessary in U.K., but vital in U.S.A.)

If you run the stiffer graphite chassis (supplied in the Kit), you probably want the DDP023 tranny brace for additional stiffness. If you get the 1006 plastic chassis which flexes more, you don't want the tranny brace. (Yes, we give you lots of options!)

You might want the DDP024 motor plate and ES002 motor plate support bracket for a bit of extra strength and bling, but neither is necessary. And to be really dialed, the DDP025 shim kit. (Brian and Ellis have the coolest stuff, and it all works too!)

Just remember spacers if you do run the longer axle. I just use a second standard wheel bearing and this seems to work just fine.:thumbsup:

For me the simple starting point was:

B4
X6 kit
E-speed hangers (I managed fine with the stock turnbuckles, cut them down if you have a problem)
Limiters for the rear shocks (to prevent the standard axles popping out at full droop).
Weights...roofing lead works a treat! Brass is more bling but expensive.

That works fine for me running at a club, and is has plenty of setup flexibility.

If you want the extra droop (useful for rougher outdoor tracks) then add the longer axles (and spacers!)

The many other optional parts after that are subtle setup tweaks (depending on your driving level you may not even recognise the difference!) or bling :D, I'd suggest getting to know the car and where your running it before deciding on those.

AE shocks are fine too, just that some find them harder to build than the losi's. Some put Losi pistons into the AE shocks as they do feel different on the track, again I'd wait until you've got used to the car.

Thanks chaps. I have some spare Losi shocks, thankfully I am a hoarder so I never sold off a dead XXXCR I got in a trade a few years back. I also have an ancient pack of BK2 driveshafts somewhere in the shed. What is this spacer I need? This is the sort of info I'm after. I assume I can get this from DMS?

You'll see it when you build it. The spacer is nothing special, just a spare bearing on the inboard side of the driveshaft so things line up nicely. You can use a duff bearing and bust off the outer ring on it to make it look tech ;)

Spacer is Losi part number A3016 if you don't have a bearing
