Just a thought

How come that mr. Strenge put the motor on the left side, when all other manufactorys put it on the right side due to torque?

JohnM 08-10-2009 12:30 PM

Because he isn't a sheep;)

Rebelrc 08-10-2009 04:10 PM

because the motor inertia is thrown inboard to help try to calm the effect......no comment on the other manufacturers.

Preds are on the left, have been forever. I think Durango and Pred know something the other companies don't.

sounds like a fundamental FAIL all round for everyone else

But Kyosho turned the motor around on the FS but still on the right hand side. Should have the same effect as durango and Pred, shouldn't it?

ben27111973 08-10-2009 10:29 PM

yeah but kyosho also copied all the other design elements of the B44 also.

there copy did not result in a better car, its 80% as good as a B44 and no where near a durango. I had a K car behind me on the weekend and the DEX was planted compared to hit!

Rebelrc 09-10-2009 02:22 PM

Yes the pred has allways taken this into consideration.
of coarse this only applies to shaft drive cars not belt...

Load of old cock, I had a B44 last year, bar far the worse car I've had to date, didn't work at all over the bumps at our track, whereas a Kyosho FS that turned up a few weeks ago, looked bloody good over the worse parts of the track, and that was first time out for it to.

I agree about the b44 not working on bumps. The b44 is way too stiff to ever work on a rough, real offroad track. It's a touring car with longer suspension, literally of course The plastic chassis of the kyosho allows it to flex way more and deal with a rough terrain.

Now of course the durango contradicts this being the stiffest car ever made. I think gerd must have spent a ridiculous amount of time designing the suspension to work well in all situations.

Maybe they should come out with optional plastic sideguards to make the chassi softer?

are you saying the car dosent work>?

MattW 10-10-2009 09:44 AM

The problem with that might be that it wouldn't brace the alloy main chassis then, and in a good shunt the main plate would probably bend - and that wouldn't be a good thing.

It's kind of ironic, because in reality the majority of cars have very similar geometry plastic parts these days. I haven't measured a Durango up yet, but having looked at one, i'd put money that it's very close to AE - certainly the rear. Which in reality most cars are!

So, when you take this into consideration, and JohnM's (hi m8!) views on the B44, means that it isn't entirely geometry that makes a car work or not.

It may look the same, but its not really AE who came up with this, the geometry has been like this since the first rc car. We are talking about millimeters here and there which you cant see with your bare eyes. Go and measure it and you'll see its alot different. Also the rear a-arms are raised from the chassis, due to the rear "kick up", something that I've never seen on a buggy before. You wish it is a AE copy, but its not.

Alex H 11-10-2009 03:55 PM

The geometry in the rear is like nothing else I have seen on the Durango and yes, the Kyosho kicks B44s as hard when it comes to ride bumpy tracks. Haven't seen one B44 up here that can handle the bumps. All the guys experiment with setting ad different dampers but no.
Another great car om the bumps are the Losi XX4.
The durango is by far the best car I have driven right out from the box.
