SX lipo pack?

Ordering two of these for my Lipo cat.

http://www.racing-cars.com/products.asp?recnumber=26487

Does enyone else use them, from what i can gather i recon they will fit.

but does anyone run these packs?

23.5mm tall.

MattW 06-10-2009 11:54 AM

They should be fine - they are flat bottomed. I have a pack, but haven't actually tried it in my cat.

fido-dido 06-10-2009 12:12 PM

They are flat bottomed. i have made a mock up battery out of some high dence foam at work. seems very tight.

fido-dido 06-10-2009 12:24 PM

hi Matt, so i could be sure, please could you try them in your cat, i have just bought the cat SX lipo so its all standard gearing.

also could i be cheeky and get you the give the size of your battery in MM to see how it compares to the internet sizes.

cheers.

I was going to get them, but if you use the Nortech Racing LIPO retainer I reckon it'll be too tight. So I'm going for the Speed Passion with a new chassis

fido-dido 06-10-2009 01:35 PM

only just got the car, half way through building it so really want to keep the bottom deck i have and use the lipo retaners shumacher supply.

alot of the batteries on the brca list are around the 23.5mm mark so hopefully they will be ok.

jim76 06-10-2009 03:46 PM

i have them, they fit fine under the belts. All lipos don't have much clearance under the belts.
I also have the nortech lipo retainer which is ACE! and they fit fine with that.

they are also damn good cells and cheaper than the speed passion and nosram equivalents

MattW 06-10-2009 04:32 PM

I haven't checked what the specified sizes are, but have measured my own pack. 138.9 x 46.3 x 23.2.

They fit perfectly well in my Cat.

thank u for the replys, put my mind at rest.

gotta get some time to finish building it now :woot:

What motor are you running? I think the GM problem for me is that I'm running a slower motor resulting in the pinion in the way etc.

MattW 06-10-2009 05:31 PM

Mikey, not sure what you mean - the GM and the SP are basically the same size - only real difference being that the GM is flat bottom and the SP has the locations.

One other big difference - the terminals are the opposite sides - so don't get mixed.

mikeyscott 06-10-2009 05:35 PM

I will double check as I could be wrong.

jim76 06-10-2009 08:04 PM

the GM pack does seem a millimetre longer than other packs. In mine it is a bit of a squeeze length ways.
If you ran a 7.5 with a larger pinion than a 23 then the lipo may be a tight fit against the motor.

mikeyscott 06-10-2009 08:06 PM

Which is what I am running.

bigred5765 06-10-2009 08:09 PM

so run a smaller spur gear and alter pinon to suit moveing the motor further back away from the lipo

this is exactly my problem now, i belive on a 10x2 brushed or 6.5 brushless (have not decided what to go for yet) i have been advised 21/83.

But all i can fit in is a 18/83 maybe 19/83 at a push.

im guessing il have to either go 20/80 (getting a scumacher spur)

or

Get the layshaft mod being sold on here and try useing small spur gears from accociated.

my problem is the battery fills the space (very colse to the purple post the R clip go's through, so cannot have the motor clamp too far towards the front of the car past the purple R clip post

i have added a pic of the 21/83 and its clearly visable how much the motor clamp is past the purple post.

im assuming most people have similar troubles as my batteries are very similiar to the length of other BRCA lipo stick packs.

how has every one got round this problem.....i hope its not just me.

PS JIM76, what size pinion and spur are u running?

MattW 12-10-2009 09:08 PM

Have you actually tried to fit the battery?? Because the motor clamp is narrower on the front edge so that it doesn't hit the lipo.

I used to run 21-83 all the time - currently 20-83 and all is fine.

mw02veg 12-10-2009 09:34 PM

just had a look at my cat exactly the same clearance! im running speed power 5300 no issue with room. get the cells in and have a try

here is mine. with the gp 5000mah brac approved lipo.

10 double, 18 pinion and 83 spur. id be lucky to get a anything bigger on, with out hanging the lipo out the side, and then making it impossible to put the positive plug into the lipo through the purposly cut hole in the top deck.
