is it ok to run a 2wd buggy with no fan on the esc ?

iv been running a 9t brushless system with 11.1v battery with a fan on the esc with a 7.2v limit
i got a new car and the first time i used it with the brushless on it the esc decided to catch fire  and i think it might have something to do with the fan on 11.1v
would it be okay to use it with no fan on the esc on a 2wd buggy,im not driving it hard im just having a bit of fun with it realy.

the fan is probably only rated to 5 volts and running on a 2s lipo shortens its life anyway. Jumping to 11.1v will definately have cooked the fan, but you should be ok to run the esc without one as long as the airflow is good and you check temps after youve run it. 2wd doesnt put too much stress on the esc so id run it without mate

In general if you were going to use an esc without a fan, you would just keep checking the temperature to ensure it was not getting too hot (e.g >160 F).

You have destroyed your esc already though right? 11V though something designed for 7.2 V presumably would break it with or without a fan:confused:

my fault didnt read it right, thought it said fan was ok for 7.2v. If the esc can only handle 2s and you put a 3s lipo through it then it doesnt matter if a fan is there or not. It aint gonna work anymore

thanks for your help everyone and the esc can take 3s but the fan cant
it was stupid of me to use it realy with the fan like that

If you still want to run a fan, get one that'll plug into the battery port on the receiver. Then you'll have a fan, and it won't blow as it'll only run on about 5.5V.

i know this is changing the subject a bit but is the car ment to make a gggggggr noise when you have the pinion toching the spur gear

The pinion and spur gear need to be set at the appropriate distance from each other. If they are too close or too far apart, there will be unpleasant noises and they will wear out fast.

look on cpc.co.uk and find a computer fan of appropriate size with a 12 volt rating, thatll sort you out. thats what i did when i needed one for my helicopter

i removed my esc fan off my brushless system in my b4. because the fan wasnt doing anything. when you put the bodyshell on it was basically touching the shell, so would be restricting the fan from doing it job. i ran this with a novak 4.5motor on indoor/outdoor track with no problems. just be sure you got correct gearing so it wont overheat and also i cut out the little body-vent on the shell to allow air to cool the esc

Ran my Xcelorin in my 4WD with no fan for ages with no issues, 2WD is surely less load on the motor so should be fine! ;)
