Just a quick one....

Do electric 8th cars have slipper clutches??

Matisse 19-09-2009 03:04 PM

most of them seem to keep the same drive train as the nitro versions, the eight 2.0 certainly does, and i'm fairly sure the SBx8e does as well.

Of our two, the Losi 8IGHT and Jammin X1CR, both reused the OEM center diff.

I'm not aware of any that use a slipper, but look at this:

Im just thinking...when they land from jumps where is the 'give' in the drive line?

Atleast with a nitro you had a clutch to look after your drivetrain. Is there nothing to safeguard the car in electric 8th?

Good point, but they seem to hold together fairly well.

The outdrives and driveshafts are subject to wear...

The biggest thing is to keep the ESC cool.

(and buy new tires, often)

RC-Monster in the US make a 'slipperential', which is a slipper clutch crossed with a differential. Clicky

Very interesting. I was aware of the Losi Smart Diff product, but hadn't seen the RC Monster offering. Thanks.

there is also the xray active diff, but i like the look of that slipperential, very clever.

We have a 1/8th electric buggy class starting at clanfield later in the year as we have a few members with them now! Should be good fun

We were able to get a close look at the Slipperential during the recent iHobby Expo in Chicago. See video / interview of Mike Cronin from RC_Monster posted in this section.
