Somthings just not right.
 

Since i re build the diff after it died the car seem to run the same but doesnt sound right at all. Firstly the diff is making noise not too much but more than before and the motor seems louder. Am i right to be concerned??

Hi Paul, have you put the diff plates back the right way, there are two sides to diff plates from when they get stamped out, look closely and you will see a rounded edge and a flat edge, you want the balls to run and the face with the flat edge, another trick worth doing is with some very light wet and dry to sand the diff plates to make sure there are no imperfections and the plates are smooth and flat, only use a small amount of diff grease, I only ever use Associated diff grease, I know I may be telling things you already know but even I forget to put things back right. hope you get it sorted

Ta for the info mate. I didnt realise the plates were sided ill have to strip it abd check. Also i could have used too much grease.

Did you check the thrust-race.

Thats the two tiny plates and about six tiny ball bearings that sit in one half of the outdrive. These get dirty/gritty and sometimes the plates even crack.

Its also possible to crack a diff plate if you over tighten them; espesially if theres a flat on the inside ie D shaped rather than O.

have you checked the spur for grit? might have a tiny bit in which will make it sound noisy.

A mate of mine had the bearings start to fail in his brushless motor. It had the sound of a diff slipping, Just something else to check. Still ran fine, but just noisy under the load of acceleration.

The bloody diff has died again this time the push stop bearing has fell apart!! Does any one know if b4 or rb5 parts will fit. I dont mind having to do minor adjustments. also what are yousr views on gear diffs against ball diffs?

RB5 main diff gear will fit, Xray tourer diff rings will fit, B4 diff balls will fit...;)

is the diff a little loose i notice u use a 5.5 it will destroy it always set the slipper to slip before the diff:thumbsup:

Same here, diff runs very smooth, does help that I run a 12th scale car and diffs on cars like that need to be as smooth a smooth thing, think I rebuilt mine twice and never had a problem with mine,
maybe its something to consider when running a super fast motor, its nice to have the fastest motor on the block but can we really control a car like that properly, unless your name is: take your pick, any of the top level drivers will do, like some rallycross drivers I know locally, big fast engines and no control and slighly shrunken brains but thats the nitro fumes for you,
but I digress quite a lot here, I kind of have that problem, I waffle a lot!! anyway as I said above its all in the preperation of diffs that make them work like they should, using the right components is a must, keeping it clean when building, the right amount of diff grease, flat plates and correct size diff balls and not forgetting to oil the bearings with quality bearing lube and learning how to set them correctly is hugely important, I must admit geared diffs make a lot more sense.

my does the same it loud but the diff all set up right i makes a loud noise when set off and putting the power on :woot:

slipper is slipping then if its noisey when you put the power through :thumbsup:

its not slipping at all it just sound not smooth but run ok but nosiey
