Iffy Diffy

Hi Guys

Just went to rebuild my diff on my cr for my cr2 conversion.

Its had almost a total new diff...

New Diff plates
New thrust race
New diff gear
New vampire diff balls
New diff nut.

Only thing that is still out of the old diff are the outdrives diff screw, bearings and spring.

I built it as i normally do but when i tighten it i have to tigten it alot to set it right and when i finally get it to the stage where it is right the diff action is tight and not smooth.

HELP!!!

Any Advice welcome.

silly but just incase... u used diff grease on the plates ?

1. Have you got the diff screw and the diff nut in the correct sides of the diff ?

2. There is a little seal just under the head of the diff screw - I once managed to get it jamed in the thrustrace with the same tight diff feel.

3. I would do a size comparison between the diff balls you took out and the new vampire diff balls - just in case !!

4. Have you used the second rings that go behind the diff plates ?

1.Yea diff screw is in the right side.

2. I will check that as the diff screw did fall out on me leaving the thrust race and bits still inside.

3. I didnt look at them i asume they are the right size they are marked on the box what size they are but ill check that.

4. Yea both diff plates.

Ive been told to try replacing the spring so i might go out and re do it in a minute replacing spring etc.

Right didnt have a spring which is annoying thought i did. So to see if it was the spring i did the old stick 6 bevelled washers in which didnt seem to solve the problem. So i changed the thrust race back to the old one. This didnt stop it so next im going to change the diff gear.

Umm, have you bed the diff in before tightening it up fully??

When i build a diff i just tighten it so the tension is on the spring not tight spin the diff etc then tighten spinnig the diff between each tighten.

Going to order new spring and thrust race. Might go change the diff gear.

Im pulling at straws now could be a damage screw. I thought at first bearing inside the diff not seated properly. But those seem to be seated fine. Im thinking change the diff gear as the bearing in the diff gear is a tight fit to put in. Tighter than normal.
