Advice on building a permanent track

Our club has been running for 20 years now and is in need of securing a proper outdoor track where we can hopefully host larger regional events. At the moment we are located down a local rugby club using a small patch of grass off the fields which isn't a bad location, but naturally everything has to be setup and packed away after the night's racing. We don't have a rostrum and every year it floods... and we would never be allowed (and there would be no point in building) proper jumps and banks

After snooping around the photos I spotted the Eden Raceway and was filled with inspiration to get off my arse and sort something out. We have just gone back indoors so we have 7 months to get something sorted. Our club has a solid base of 10-15 members that can be be counted on to help out as these are the few who turn up early and setup the track, etc every week.

I'm pretty sure if we can locate some land no matter how crappy or run down it is we can make something happen without breaking the club's bank.

does anyone have any advice on where we go next. my initial thoughts were have a talk down the club which happened last night and then write a letter to the council and see what happens next.

Cheers guys

Also check out the photo's of Robin Hood Raceway.

Myself and a small group of guys created that in approx 10 months
We can give you advice on how we did it if you want :)

yes please. anything will help at this stage.

we have an electrician amongst our members and a welder by trade.

just had a look at the video and it looks really good. exactly what we want to achieve.

does anyone have any advice on where to ask and look for land to build it?

obviously a farm down a 5 mile dirt track might be the best location in the world for a track, but access would be horrible.

I dont know how things work where you live but the council at chester made mold club stop racing at two offroad sites because the land was not being used for the designated purpose, ( farmland) even though one site I believe was on a members own farmland.
So first thing after you get some land check the council will allow you to change the designated use before you lay out any money and time.

thanks for the tip off! that could save us a load of effort!

I think speaking to the council is the next step.

are most tracks generally built on farms or where?

seems a good idea from the point of view of carparking security etc.

there's a leisure centre next door to our indoor venue, but all the land around it now has houses on it. Back when I went to school there it was all flat lol. there is a football field sized area behind the local football ground, but apparently they use it for something even though they have 2 pitches there :(

I think a farm is the best option at the moment.
