Cat SX Cooling
How many of you have had to put holes in the shell to aid cooling?
|
I have holes in mine for the summer. But on a wet day if its a bit cooler then i tape them up and it's fine.
|
Will add a small hole on the motor side
|
make sure the rear of the shell is cut away on that side also to let the air out of the back. And on really hot days you will probably want a slightly bigger hole to be safe!!
|
Have you got a picot the rear section that needs cutting?
May get another shell for cooler running |
i haven't got a pic, but it's the bit at the back where it wraps around the undertray, in towards the rear shock tower. Just trim a bit off so that it doesn't fit so snug around the back, it will help get the hot air out quicker
|
or do what simon moss has done and ream a load of large holes on the undertray :)

You can trim the body and undertray too right at the very front so that you get more air in there.
I have also reamed out the two scoops to their maximum size. I dont have a cooling issue but this wont hurt... |

For cooling you could consider locating your ESC diferently. The RS Pro solder posts are also the heat sink. You are supposed to face them towards the side of the body shell, so as not to make a heat trap. I had my towards the shell at first, but now have them facing towards the receiver so they are further away from the motor. Where you have them right now is just trapping the heat.
My 6.5 geared 23 / 80, did not get very hot. Zero timing on motor, Zero boost, 85 Timing advance on RS Pro ESC. I don't ever run my car more that race time, even when practicing, so 5 or 6 minutes + warm up lap and final lap. Then let it cool down heaps before running again. My 5.5 does get hot, but still only 150f. They just get hot anyway, apparently the damage starts from 180 upwards, depending who you talk too. I have cut the rear of the shell and under-tray and the vent holes on each side near the window. You have to do it. Doesn't look bad if you follow the vent mould, and really these things are for racing, so you could have a separate un-cut concourse shell for the display shelf at home  |
