RC Insurance

Evening all, after someone at a recent northeast regional had their car stolen from their pit table whislt marshalling, it got me thinking about whether my house insurance extends to my rc equipment and it turns out it doesnt.

Has anyone ever taken out insurance to include their rc equipment, and if so who with, price etc....

Thanks
Wayne

There is a link to a policy with a recommended insurer on the main page of the BRCA web site but it doesn't work.

After a bit of searching I've found it. It's at http://www.lockton.com/Resource_/Pag...icle-Jul07.pdf

I've been considering doing it myself. If you add up the value of the equipment most of us have it starts getting quite scary!

household insurance

Your household insurance should cover you up too what ever limitations you have on your policy.
On mine im covered up too £1000 for goods away from the home. You can pay an extra premuim on stated items .I have my camera gear insured for £3000 and that costs £27 for the year.HTH

The crucial word there is "should". As I work in the insurance industry - not for an insurance company by the way - I would advise anybody to check their policy wording and if it is at all unclear seek advice the insurer concerned. Many Insurers will give cover under the all risks section which is varying called by other names such as Personal Belongings and Unspecified / Specified Valuables. However, the intent with such cover is to provide insurance for accidents, fire theft, flood etc subject to the policy excess being applied per claim BUT you will find most Insurances have something called a "reasonable precautions" clause. This basically acts as an umbrella for Insurers to say "look, don't come to us claiming for all your stuff being nicked when you left it unsecured and lying about on a table in the middle of a sports hall / field with 100 people you wouldn't know from Adam, and who can come and go as they please". Obviously, some policy do specify that unattended items are secured but as they cannot anticipate every possible eventuality, the reasonable precautions clause gives a perfectly legitimate opportunity to refuse what you may think is a genuine claim.

End of sermon.

It's unlikely that a house insurance policy would (fully) cover your RC gear. A few months back at Dartford Race Track, an awful lot of stuff was stolen. I know one of the guys affected, and after a drawn out discussion with his insurance company, they agreed to pay half the value, as the RC stuff wasn't covered, but wasn't excluded. It did take a bit of a argument though.
