bottle bodies

has anyone found a particular bottle which is good for bodies, any you know of with thicker plastic??

I've used 2Litre Fanta bottles because they were the biggest ones i could find.

But I know some other guys that have used whatever with good result.

Here's a link to Lars Jonssons guide on "how to make a body":

Its quite easy after a few attempts, just spend some quality time making your mould ;)

Had a go at this, made a B44 mould and a jig as per the Lars fella. It's a bit tricker than it looks, but i'm getting there. You really need a strong jig to hold the bottle to the mould to get the creases where the cab part of the body is. There's a reason why most of the bottle bodies are quite simple and have flat edges, it's because you can't get really fancy shapes. This isn't vac forming, it's simply shrinking the bottle around a mould. That's why the metal bars in the jig are so important.

I'll post a couple of picces of my mould / jig etc. I had a decent B44 body on my 3rd attempt, I then quickly painted it (made a complete mess of it...) to test if the lexan paint goes on ok, and it does ! I'm going to keep refining it. I think my mould was too detailed and not flat enough, so i'm going to simplify it.

Yes, he's using a heat gun. I have a B4 shell from him. It's stronger, lighter and fits better then any other shell i have seen.

anyone tried vacuming the shell around the mould, should be easy enough to mount your mold on a board, drill holes around the lower edge then seal bottle to board, two peices of ply and some 2 by 1 batton should do the trick, i'm sure a good modern hoover will do the trick

This is such a cool technique - never heard of this before. Thanks fellas
