I was given some tyres by someone the other day there not fantastic but they are new. I have some mardave racing ones that say Mardave V.S.R on the side and they are the first image below i am just wondering if there is any use for them and the others are schumacher full spikes but i was wondering how you can find the compund as i also have some mystary mini spikes which im not sure of compound.

Those tyres are about 15 years old....might be a little older (my memory is fading) the v.s.r. stands for variable spike rear and were standard kit tyres for the Mardave Meteor and Cobra.
They were normaly used on grass tracks and only came in 1 compound.

They will do for club in the wet.

Yep.... but the Schumacher full spikes would be better suited to the damp/wet conditions.

Are the mardave tyres not a smaller fit than the new modern wheel.

That is true, spencer. The mardave rear wheels were a 2" diamater and all modern wheels are a 2.2", so they'll not go on. Sorry Ash:(

From what I remember the original Meteor has 2.0" wheels and tyres and later models and the Cobra had 2.2" to keep up with tyre technology....I could be wrong....it was a very long time ago and my memory is fading.
You young pups have it easy.....I remember the good old days when........

No idea about the cobra, "old man", but my meteor definately has 2.0" wheels. But if like you say the cobra has 2.2 then they might still be useful... I'd be tempted to try them indoors on slippy stuff if the're still soft enough (my old pairs have turned rock hard and cracked)

As long as u use the mardave tyres on 2.2 inch rims they will fit on. Bit of a stretch but will fit!!! We used to run old schumacher softs which where 2inch on 2.2 rims back in the good old days

Yea ive just tried them i had got the mini spikes on and the mardave racing somes but i can get the schumacher full spikes on.

We still run the schumacher 2" yellow fronts indoors on polished floors. Their spike layout gives better traction on a smooth surface compared to the 2.2" as the spikes are flatter across the tyre.

Actually I think it was vertical spike rear, as they also did an inclined version ;)

Agree, it's Vertical Spike Rear as opposed to Inclined Spike Rear.

Standard fitting on the Meteor.

Some of us still run 2 inch wheels on some of our cars!
