need some advise... :d

hi, im just wondering, how fast in mph do you think a durga (4wd) with 10.5 brushless and trakpower 4900 would go... also, say the same for the same setup, but with a 6.5... thanks :d

what gearing are you running?

dr durga 29-07-2009 09:02 AM

81t spur, 22t pinion..

jono83 29-07-2009 09:09 AM

ok what brand of motor and do you know what the fnal drive ratio of the durga is?

dr durga 29-07-2009 09:24 AM

i dont know then other question, but i know that im gonna use a losi xeliron

Well actually its not that easy. After all our cars don't have a speedometer, and we don't sit around with radar guns all day!
Jono was angling for the data to input into a gearing calculator to get a theoretical top speed but thats still a guess and notoriously inaccurate.

If asked I'd say quick with the 10.5, quicker with the 6.5. If pushed for speeds I' guess low 40's on the 10.5, high 40's on the 6.5 but they are meaningless numbers for anything other than bragging rights.

The truth is that most race cars spend virtually no time at full speed - its how you get there that counts. F1 cars are not that quick in a straight line (typically 180-190 mph) but can accelerate far faster than say a Veyron. So much so that even with the Veyrons great top speed in a drag race the F1 car would win at any distance shorter than a mile.

Likewise, a brushless Lipo'd Durga might not sound as fast as those people touting their 60mph nitros, but I can tell you that in a drag race you would leave them standing. It might be slower on paper, but it won't look or feel slow!

One final note. You will see some companies (Losi/Traxxas) selling 60 mph capable RTR's. However, if you read the small print, they only go that fast running 3S (11.1V) Lipos. On conventional (2S 7.4V) batteries they do about 45mph, same as the Durga. And should you put a 3S in your Durga, it to could do 60ish, but its not legal for racing, not good for the drivetrain and no use except for speed runs so don't bother.
