PS3 > laptop probs

Hi all, Maybe someone on here can help me with my dilema/problem.

While I play on the PS3, the missus usually plays games on the laptop.

All of a sudden, I can't have one on without the other not working. If she's on the laptop and I switch the PS3 on, it wont let me sign into PSNetwork to get online. If I'm on the PS3 and she puts the laptop on, it won't let her play on her games. Sometimes it won't let us do either.

It comes up on the laptop with 'there is an IP conflict with another system on the network'.
It's never done this before, only recently.

Any ideas on how to cure it and stop it from happening?

Easy solution, tell your wife to do the ironing while you are playing.

Thats very wierd my family have about 7 items conected to our wireless 4 at most on at the same time and it work the same. :eh?:

Haha, she's usually done that before I go on the PS3.:p

So instead of being bored, watching me go round on GT5P she plays her games on the laptop.

Have you tried to reboot it?

telboy 22-07-2009 08:27 PM

Ah, now then. Never thought of that.
I had to reboot my laptop a few weeks ago because of a virus.

Hmmmm. now, I wonder if rebooting it had anything to do with it.

The ps and laptop were both getting the same ip address. Have you fixed any of your addresses? If they are both on the same ip then the first machine to turn on will get exclusive access.

Turn on the ps3 and sign in.

Then turn on pc, go to start and run then type cmd.

Do ipconfig/release then the same and renew instead. This should force the laptop to get a different ip.

Try reseting the online settings on the PS3 whilst the laptop is connected to the router. Then re-configure the PS3, whilst the laptop is connected. That way the PS3 should connect with a different IP address.

The IP addresses should be 192.168.0.1 (router)

192.168.0.2, and 192.168.0.3 either laptop or PS3.

If not you can configure the PC to a different IP address of your choosing

is it sorted?

on your laptop/pc:

click start , programs, control panel, network connections, Local Area Connection, properties, internet protocol(tcp/ip),:

This opens a box where you have basically two choices
1 obtain ip address automatically
2 use specified address

if your pc is set to 1 then it shouldnt conflict if you switch it on after the ps3 no matter what thats set to. if you switch it on before the ps3 and thats set to a fixed address then the pc may pick up the ps3's address if its not reserved as that address is free when the ps3's off.

Hope that makes sense.

If all devices that connect to your router use DHCP ie option 1 above then there shouldnt be any conflicts.

If you can access your router you can see which devices are using which addresses.

details to log onto router are often printed on the bottom of it.

cheers,

Ian
