and lipo im charging my trakpower 3600's up at 5amp max |
In the words of trakpower, charge at 1c, or fast charge at 2c and reduce the cells useful cycle life by half.
|
i would only ever charge at 2c usnga vbalencer or similar and only if i was realy pushed for time the lower the charge rate you use will be beter for the life of the battery .its a bit like stuffing your face realy quick or eating at a normal speed

No, charging at higher than 1C rates is fine, Flightpowers (Trakpowers) have always been able to take 2C charge rates, but as mentioned, it shortens life span (though it doesn't halve it). Recently cell manufacturers have brought out new LiPos, capable of 5C charge rates in some cases (with up to 3C recommended for maximum life), such as the new Hyperion, Enerland, and Flightpower cells. LRP aren't going over the top with the 3C suggestion, it's just finding a charger to charge at 15.9A that's more the problem. 10A isn't even 2C so is safe, and won't really reduce the life span.

OOOO,my head hurts now!!!

Oh come on, it gets far more complex than that!
On a side note, I've personally charged Hyperion Lipos at 5C and they haven't adversely suffered from it. |
thats mad, even with 3600 that would be 18amps,are u sure u have ur figure right

However, charging faster any given lipo WILL Always reduce its life span (discharging faster as well). |
I know, I never said that lifespan wasn't reduced. However, the effects on lifespan of charging at higher C rates is now less noticeable than before.
|
Which chargers can charge at that rate tho? I've got the new 4800 saddles which are 3c capable but my charger only goes up to 6amps.
|
I've got a charger that can charge at 10A, and up to 12S (though not both at once due to 180W maximum power).
Hyperion make chargers that can charge at 10A, and you can connect them so they work together, for a maximum charge rate of 20A. That's not a cheap solution though unfortunately. For most, 2C will be enough (30 minutes charge from flat is pretty good). |
