Leaking Smeg fridge- HELP
 

Just as we are about to go on holiday the fridge has found a desire to leak all over the kitchen floor.:mad: This is the second time in 2 weeks. I have isolated the leak to the drip tray that sits over the compressor at the back. Water that drips frpm the inside of the fridge is guided to a drip tray. This was full before and is full again after 2 weeks. This water should be evaoporating and is clearly not. Why is this?
I have looked on tinternet and it would appear that this is common but no solution is offered.

Any ideas, is the compressor knackered and is the smeg as its name suggests? Typically warranty ran out 3 months ago:mad:

Have you not got room to fit yourself a bigger drip tray? Might be able to give a bigger surface area to help the condensate to evaporate. (Being as it's out of warranty)

there must be a blockage between the drip tray, and the evaporator then.... need to pull out the fridge, and clean all the smeg out.

Or is it going into defrost mode?

The moisture is condensate that is drawn from the air and products stored within the cabinet. Every time you open the door your effectively adding water to that tray. Its really high ambient humidity at the minute which is making the problem worse.

If the tray is literally overflowing then theres a few things to consider.

Are the doors sealing properly ? Is the door seal split in any places or not seating ?

Is it a fridge/freezer or just a fridge ?

You can help the water to evaporate by making a wick. Place a jay cloth or similar into the tray leaving 1/4 of it dangled into the tray and then fix the remaining part of the cloth to the back of the cabinet.

I have a feeling that there may be an underlying problem that is causing the tray to overflow if im honest. You don't usually get these sort of problems unless you are in and out of the fridge every 5 minutes. ( domestic cabinet in commercial application for example )

BTW - Im a commercial Refrigeration/Air Con Engineer.

Oh - it wont be the compressor knackered. If it was then your fridge would be warm. Not a blockage either or else the water would be leaking into the cabinet not overflowing the tray. Your getting too many air changes within the cabinet for some reason or its icing up the evaporator due to a fault of some kind and overflowing the tray when it defrosts.

Thanks for responses. Just got back from 8 hour drive thinking that I would be spending the day messing about phoning round. Fridge is bone dry. Methinks the traffic created by hungry and thirsty 3 year old and my tendancy to not close doors properly be the problem. Fingers crossed- looks like i have escaped the 'new kitchen' for a bit longer.
