Team Kassanova Scorpion mid-motor conv.

This was a Nitro XTM X-Cellerator. It is not just a electric conversion but a Mid-engine mounted electric truck. It started out as an idea and I found myself spending hours on it in my room. I am only 15 so spare me for not having a hard anoed chassis and motor mount but I do plan on getting those made. What do yall think of it so far?

In progress:

And getting closer to run:

New steering so I can run sidexside or Li-Po in the future:

After it was ran one night:

The truck now has an aluminum hold-down with a JRXS battery foam pad from my old car and the batts don't move at all.
Tell me what you think and all feed back is appreciated.

Nothing?

Elliott Hopkins 13-03-2007 10:20 AM

Are you sure you are 15? :)

Whenever I made stuff in my room at 15 it was always rubbish.

This looks cool.

I like the fans on the motor.

Elliott.

i would use some insulating material under the cells,if the heatshrink rubs off then the cells will short out on the chassis, especially since they arent secured firmly and used in offroad, they may chafe quite badly.

but keep up the work :)

Thanks I appreciate the comments.

The "insulation" as you say is just a big pre-filter that I had laying around, I cut it. The cells are now secured very firmly, they won't even move when I push them with my finger.
Yea, Im 15. lol
Any more words is mucho appreciated as well.

Edit:Plus, I'm going to get a chassis molded hopefully.

BenG 13-03-2007 12:04 PM

did you say this is a EP truck now?

It's very impressive.

How did you cut the metal e.t.c

Thanks,

Nice work

Cooper 13-03-2007 02:08 PM

very nice job for a 15 year old!

annie_himself 13-03-2007 07:44 PM

Yep, the truck is EP. I cut the metal with a hack-saw and my dremel. Used a Hammer drill and a reg. drill for the holes.
Thanks Cooper but the sig has to go!

I also like this forum alot better than RCTech, better responses. So I will keep updateing here.

I drove it again tonight in a little dirt. It was wearing Holeshots in some moist hard-packed dirt. It still seemed to be quirley on a low battery when I would peg the throttle but I guess the mid-motor thing takes away a little rear traction. Does anyone have any idea that would shift weight to the rear during acceleration or add weight like a B4?

annie_himself 18-03-2007 02:17 AM

Drove it again, a little feathering of the throttle helped and it gained traction as my lead finger gave it more gas. But something sounded wierd after a while, like a brearing was wobbling or a axle was bent.

Edit: The surface was lightly packed dirt that was a little moist. So light that my footprint would leave a CM or so deep impression. The tires were covered in it after a few passes, like dirt slicks or something.

Another update.

I am doing a overhaul on the truck when I get my check Friday.

Stock steering position.
4x2 battery setup.
T4 front body mounts as battery hold-down posts.
Might to to fit a MRX-B4 battery strap or a BJ4WE's on to it for good looks.
A new Black/Blue chassis.
New packs of course.
And a little more to make it look like a factory ride.

Plus I've been practicing a little CAD work, heres like a 20-30min job on a motor mount.

The bottom there is where it would mount to the chassis.

You guys have any more ideas?

annie_himself 28-06-2007 05:19 PM

Just looking for a little feedback and I'm gonna make a battery hold-down for it too. Just for fun.

After the UPS (santa claus) man dropped of my goodies, I got to work:

Here is a motor I put together using a Orion 19t arm and V2 endbell with a Trinity can. Using it just as a mock-up motor for now but I wonder how it runs... LRP 5.5 BL coming soon.

My plan was to make the truck look a bit factory, I am not done yet, a MR4-BX hold-down will be used and I will build another truck from a XC Racer so that everything is new and looks even better.
How do you like the truck so far?

josh_smaxx 31-07-2007 09:24 AM

Looks very good :p

Was gonna say you need a BL motor in there :)

Oh ye and that e-machine shop is brilliant! iv been using it for a while now but never ordered anything, iv never designed anything worthwhile yet :p

Good luck with future projects, not that you luck like you need it :D

annie_himself 31-07-2007 01:39 PM

Thank you, yea eMachine shop is cool, just not worth buying anything for the price. I made that mount and it would've cost me over $100.

I don't understand that last comment....

josh_smaxx 31-07-2007 01:56 PM

Well i was saying good luck to be polite but considering how neat this one is you dont appear to need it.

I wish i was that good at modding :(

annie_himself 01-08-2007 03:51 AM

Thank you. Its not that hard, I'm almost 16 and did all of that with no kind of large machine. Dremel, drill, knife, and my hands.

josh_smaxx 01-08-2007 09:13 AM

I have a dremel, a drill and two hands and i wouldnt know where to start doing that :D

annie_himself 01-08-2007 02:53 PM

Haha

annie_himself 24-09-2007 09:14 PM

Update:
The truck had its first run today in our new addition and in my workshop. Going to run it on a mock-up track ASAP.
