very hot motor after 5 minutes racing.

After running my 3 star lrp on sunday at stoke regional it started to get very warm on 17/78 gearing in my kyosho zx5 and after 3 mins in the final it stopped. After marshalling it ran ok but still very warm.Is it possible to under gear brushless motors with lipo power and over rev them and is there a temperature that the motor should be after running that i could check by using my temp gun.The motor is 2.5 years old but has never caused this problem before. I have took it apart but theres not much to check. The 3 wires are still soldered to the ring in the can,is it because it's an old motor with new lipo .Any help welcome.

Yes you can undergear a BL... sounds like you have... I would say, using the Novak temp rules, anywhere between 50C-70C would be ok... but check with LRP if you're gonna give it another go...

Undergearing can cause worse damage than overgearing, try go up two or three pinions and try it out
