Changing Wheel Colour?

Can it be done and and has any body tried it and if so what is the best way to change the colour of your wheels and where can you get the stuff from.

it used to be done using a pan of hot water and some "dylon" of your color choice. Dylon was & probably is, still available from woolworths.

You would need to make sure the water wasn't too hot, as the wheels may deform.

Old gold tubbed RC10's used to get their white plastics dyed orange I think it was, to make them look like the rare first editions or something like that.

My S2 & S4 both run black losi wheels dyed with dylon, best place i have found to buy it online is http://www.chaffinch.com/ and goto Dylon Multi Purpose Dye. Also dyed some parts Tangerine :p its important to add salt to your dye as this helps the dye bite into the plastic. And for wheels use two tubs of the dye, and use a old saucepan as it really is not fit for food after ;)

Does this work with any Losi wheels or just the white ones???

OldTimer 03-03-2007 11:09 AM

You can dye the yellow losi spoked or solid wheels to black ;)

You can also get sticky discs that stick onto the wheels...
Note the outside is oragne and the inside is white

These are available in loads of colours. Pete at Castle models stocks them so I would think are quite widely available

does the dye stick to your pans though?

It will stain it.

Is the 500ml per tin of dylon right or do you lot use a bit more. How many wheel can you usually get out of a tin?

OldTimer 04-04-2007 11:37 AM

I put the water in so it covers you wheels, and top it up as it evaporates, i use two tins. And use a old pain as well ;)
