Kyosho RB5 endurance race report

Hello Kyosho fans,

I thought some people might want to know how we experienced an endurance race with the almighty RB5:wub. The race was an endurance of 6 hours in total (3 in the morning followed by a barbecue and 3 in the afternoon) organised by the TRC (Top Racing Club). A 6 hour race is in my opinion ideal to test the car’s strength and capabilities. We raced on a grass track with 2 little jumps and some tricky parts. There were a total of 8 teams consisting of a majority of Associated B4’s.

In the morning we were “surprised” (Belgian weather you know:yawn:) by some raindrops and in the end a good old shower… Nevertheless, all cars survived the first 3 hours of racing with the first 3 teams having an epic battle for first place. The RB5 ended the first 3 hours second with only 3 laps behind the first team.

After a delicious barbecue the race was resumed and this time the clouds decided to party somewhere else and so we had a sunny afternoon. In the afternoon the battle was still going strong between the first 3 teams (our RB5, a B4 and a Losi XXX). After 1 hour of racing the leader (losi xxx) broke and lost their first place. Unfortunately we soon started to experience cogging and glitches with the Kyosho. We then broke a suspension holder and lost all possibilities to win the race:cry:. In the end we still ended third though:)

The results after 6 hours of hardcore racing:

Winner: Losi XXX with 519 laps
Second: Asso B4 with 500 laps and a bit
Third: Kyosho RB5 with 498 laps

So all in all we enjoyed racing with the RB5. The car was easy to drive, seemed consistent even after 6 hours of racing and most of all it showed it was capable to race with the big boys (Losi and Asso). Below some pics of the event.

Yeah, and the great thing is that the car held up just fine. (except for that suspension holder:blush:) I totally rebuilt the car after the race and apart from "terminal" ball bearings the car is still in a good shape.

The car after the first "rainy" stint
(We mounted Shum Minispikes green in the front, Shum Full Spikes Yellow in the rear ... and this seemed a very good choice on the soaking grass)

All cleaned up, partially disasembled and checked, mounted new tyres and ready for the second stint.

(we) the RB5-team:

from left to right:
Ludo "Lowie" De Greef, Pierre "Matrix" Sleewaegens, Aymeric "Sicotange" Bienfait, Michel "Tamiyaboy" Robijn and François "Mister Brushless" Bukac.

We used:
* RB5
* Atomic Carbon Shock Towers (Thx Jonathan for shipping so fast)
* Tires: rain: Front: Shum Minispikes Green (which gave a tiny bit to much front grip) and Rear; Shum Full Spikes Yellow
dry track: FR: Schum Staggerib yellow, R: Schum MiniSpikes yellow
* ESC: GM ...? Brushless sensorless (but did not run smoothly!)
* Motor: LRP X11 10.5 which we ran sensorless
* Ko Propo Radio with 2.4 Spektrum-module and receiver
* Ko Propo Servo

The setup: (PDF-sheet)
Car ran very safe, but a bit nose-heavy on jumps

AND, pitty we did not take a picture of it, the outdrives and CVD-axles showed NO WEAR AT ALL, after 6 houres of racing! Astonishing!

It was a pleasure to drive this car! It really got me hooked on this RB5
