Painting lights?

Hi,
I've just got a new shell and I am wanting to paint my own lights.
What should I do first the lights then the main thing, or the main thing then the lights? Also will I be able to use cans for them or will I need to use an airbrush?
Thanks.

Hi m8

No one reli sprays there lights they use the decals or just paint em like a smoky color , if you were to spray them you would need a Extra fine airbrush one of the reli expensive ones

Thanks for the replies, I think I’m gonna have a go at them see what they turn out like. I'll try and post some pics after I’ve done it.

If no fading is necessary, then you can do it with cans.
I always used to do the lights first then do the rest, as Mr Boult said. :) This way you don't get the colours of the lights bleeding through the other colours, and ruining your nice scheme. ;)

if I spray a TC shell, unless someone actually specifies no lights, lights get sprayed, and I do them first. And grills.

Hey sp8y, that's a great first effort! That's really all you need to do, and it's easy with cans. If you want to get more complex shading and effects, airbrushes can make it happen. I'd recomend a G35 from airbrushes.com. They're getting great reviews and it's one of the cheapest decent brushes for about 35 quid.

If you want to develop your style, I'd recomend looking at any of the painter threads on here to help you pick up advise. I'm doing my headlights in this style: http://www.oople.com/forums/attachme...0&d=1248380543
It uses a bit more complex masking, some thinned black paint, silver and a colour of choice for the indicator. But you can take the ideas of any painter and adapt it to your style!

Good luck!
