ESC problems

My mrt speedo seemed a bit temperamental tonight, for no apparant reason during a race it would seem to go into a 'safe' mode whereby I had no steering or throttle. The lights were still lit on the speedo and if you turned it off then back on it was fine again, after another couple of minutes the same thing would happen again. Anyone any ideas on why this would happen and how to correct it.

I am running a 19t modified brushed motor in my cyclone moorespeed.

I'm running 112/34, same as I've ran for a few weeks with no problems from the ESC. Only problems have been stripping spurs but that seems to be okay now.

your not running spektrum are you? if so try a power cap

JJ The Boat Wizzard 21-06-2009 06:58 PM

good call try the powercap if your on specktrum ! i had that problem when i did the switch

Carole_MH 21-06-2009 07:34 PM

Yep im running spektrum, im using the DX3S.

The belts are fine and the temp is no higher than usual, not sure exactly what temp its running at but its no higher than it usually runs.

I will try the power cap and if I cant get hold of one in time for next saturday will swap the spektrum over to my Futaba 3PKS Fasst system.

Thank guys.

It sounds to me as though either the speedo is over temperature and shutting down, or it's a Spektrum issue.

We have found (running 12th and GT10) that the Spektrum receivers are susceptible to dirt and dust. Take the receiver case apart, carefully remove the board, and brush out the c**p. Make sure you get all the dust and stuff out - I am amazed by how much was in there!! Then re-assemble and re-bind the receiver.

I've done that with both mine recently, and the occasional problem with a glitch or shutdowns has gone completely. I have also taken out my power cap with no ill effects - and it didn't stop the problems when fitted, anyway! HTH :)

It does not sound like a MRT speedo issue. If the speedo was shutting down, then the steering would still be there.

For the steering to disappear like discribed, the BEC of the speedo would have to fail supply the right voltage to the receiver (you can check this easily with a voltmeter when the problem occurs)

Yea ive seen similar spektrum problems. Try a power cap, make sure there is no crap in the reciever also make sure the speedo is well cusioned ive seen cars with spektrum just cut out after a crash or landing a jump (not really relevent in touring car.)
