Last big "International" 1/10th Race in the UK?

Why was it so long ago?

I'm pretty sure the last "big" international off road (10th) race was the 1996 Reedy Invitational at Marston's.

It was the best meeting i'd ever been to back then, there were the likes of Mark Francis, Jason Ruona from the U.S plus all the top European drivers at the time not forgetting the Brit's Craig, Ellis, Kevin Moore etc.

They invited the Top 3 under 16's and under 13's to come too so we had a great day racing against these guys.

I just wonder why it's never happened again, is it because there aren't really any "Reedy" sponsored races any more?? I know Mike isn't in good health but the brand is still going strong it would be great to see these meetings make a come back.

The format worked so well and it made for really good out and out racing all day long.

We have discussed holding a GP at EPR, the main difficulty is timing!!!

With nationals and regionals and Euros, it's tough to fit in!!!!

But I would like to have one at EPR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup :

Id like one at Tally once we have the track new and old right
we have held talks as a club about a winter race and one off big events over the next few years

Last big one off i did was the Reedy race at Hampshire where you had to run prolines and AE cars 15T Hand out motors and mass starts

you where put in to teams with the likes of coxal Evdoka Dresh as team capatins there where loads more around 7 teams of 8

sleight had blonde hair as did Jody denner

Nick im sure you where there i know Lee was we all had b3s back then

and it was wicked

Yeah i remember that one mate, that was a good format for a one off meeting, didn't they try to do it as a series??

I would just love to see a 10th International race meeting, a bit like the Neo or Proline race, shame 10th doesn't seem to have that sort of backing at the moment but i'm sure it's still getting bigger!

Hopefully with the current climate i can see 2wd off road with Lipo's and brushless being one of the cheapest (yet competitive) forms of R/C racing.

I'm sure there will be another 'Players' race at Worksop some time ;) Hard to do a race report on it because its so exciting you don't want to look away.

Sadly, people don't even want to go to the Worlds these days - so getting them to an unknown race in the UK will be hard.

People maybe want to go to World but don't have money for such trip. International race in UK sounds tempting.

Needs to be in the winter and indoors realy, to avoid any clashes with nats etc.

Need to have a 1/10th NEO at harper adams some time. That'd be MEGA cool and surely with the reputation the NEO has, the drivers would come.

Would it be possible if maybe the BRCA could fit in an international event in the calander, maybe even if clubs applied to do an event they could hand pick it, and then do the same the year after? just a thought!

The Petit RC race was good at Maritime and is happening again this winter, let's hope we get some more foreign drivers over for it?

Would be great though having reedy race over here in the summer, I remember watching the 1992 Reedy video as a kid, would be cool to race in one!

I already announced the next PETIT RC race edition will be the 16th & 17th of January 2010 at Maritime.
Nick, do not miss the edition 4 :p
This year came drivers from UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Greece.

See you all soon...

I remember the Reedy race at Aire valley and boy what a crap day I had. Still was a great event and a lot of fun. What about the British Grand Prix in 94 (I think, must find that trophy with the date on) where half of the top 40 from the worlds turned up and raced, that was like a nats event and was a great weekend worth of racing.

Petit is going to be fun and should be a great weekend out as the last one was. Great atmosphere

Belsten - Your more than welcome to doss at my place in Kent if you do. Great chippie down the road as well.

I was present with my brother Geoffrey at the Reedy race 1996 near Birmingham. As said Nick that was very nice.... I did a report for a French magazine at this event.
I also remember 1 EFRA GP at EPR there are few years with my brother (1994?1995? don't remember)
That was 1 of reasons I decided to create 1 big event called "PETIT RC race" for atmosphere, level, a lot of drivers from differents country, a big pleasure for me to meet you,etc

Mmm now then that probably explains why when we met at the Petit event you looked familiar. Still you have now made a name that will stay set in time, easily up there with the Reedy event even though Reedy was always on a clay track of some kind. I personally prefer being indoors as its much faster.
