pistons help

Hi Guys

On the x6 when running AE shock I’ve read a few post by the team drivers that fitting losi pistons is advised

What losi pistons are the equivalent to AE- do the pistons need filing to fit?

any one

Not too sure on ther comparison off the top of my head (although there ae some good spring and piston comparison charts around) although I can say that it is the red pistons we tend to use in the X6 and they drop straight in with no alterations...

now your all back from racing in Oz

any one able to help

Darren said they will fit

but id like to know what the losi / ae comparison is

I'm sure there are dozens of answers to be found, if not here then on other forums.

I don't think there's a 1-to-1 comparison, IMHO, a piston always feels different from one with 3 holes. If you get the static damping the same, the pack will be different, and vice versa.

But as *very rough* guide, #1 = 55, #2=56, and #3 = 57.

Why do you need the conversion anyways? 90% Of the X-6 set-ups you'll find will use Losi pistons.

Yes they fit straight in, red is similar to #2, I think , there was a post in the general section a week or so ago with a full comparison chart.

Post a Q in the J Concepts thread as Rich Lowe will know.

They wont be exactly the same mind, remember that the AE piston has square edges and the Losi piston has rounded edges, even the material used can make a little difference to how the oil flows round them.

Edit: beaten to it by the Elvo meister

ok so a blue losi would be close to an AE 05 if there was one

Close to an AE #0, which doesn't exist, and would probably be very hard to make; I'm quite sure the E-clip would block part of the hole and disrupt the flow.

I think you just need to put a red piston in, you cant compare a 2 hole piston to a 3 hole one, even a drilled 3 hole piston feels different to the equivelant moulded one. The profile of the piston plays a big part as well, the AE ones are flat with sharp edges and the losi ones are more rounded, you will never get them feeling the same. You may have the same area for the oil to flow through but its the way it flows that makes the car feel different.
