East Coast bodyshells - which does what best?
I've been looking around for budget BRCA approved shells, and came upon the East Coast brand, which Schumacher are distributing.
They have 4 shells approved for BRCA use - EC16283121: IS250 (Lexus IS250), EC16283122: Euro-R (Mugen Accord), EC16283123: 320Si (BMW 320Si), EC16283126: Speed6 (Mazda 6) I haven't been able to find anything about their different handling characteristics (and thus track type suitability), but perhaps their similarity to shells from other brands would allow some educated guess work? I know little about Touring Car racing, so was hoping I could pick some Oople brains. |
it depends on the track
me personally along with many other tc racers would go for the mazda 6 |
I note they don't have a Dodge Stratus shell - I'm wondering whether the Mugen or BMW would be closest?
The BMW, like the Stratus, seems to have the lowest incline in angle from bonnet to windscreen. |
i dont know anyone that has an eastcoast shell but sumeone i know has a bmw and its pants
stick with the mazda and you will be fine |

The EC Mazda is a lot like the PF Mazda (not Mazdaspeed), the EC BMW is a lot like a PF Dodge Stratus 2, the EC Accord is a lot like a Rayspeed Accord. Don't know about the Lexus though.
Mazda for all round, indoors or out, BMW for open outdoors, Accord for tight indoors. |
Agree with Gary, I only use the Mazda Speed6 now (by Protoform) - I race rubber on asphalt. It's sooo much more stable and planted than anything else.
If you need lots of steering though, the Protoform R9 shell is excellent. Sorry, I know you're looking at East Coast but thought I'd throw my tuppence worth in. |
one i have just finished for my mi3
