PC help - FORMATTING XP!!

Our computer is in major need of a formatting but it came with Vista whereas we run the computer with XP but don't have the XP discs... is there any other solution? There's a bunch of XP torrents on isohunt but I'm a bit wary of going down that route, unless anyone can recommend a working one?

Help needeeeed!

If it was me i would download the Windows 7 release candidate from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx. Valid to June next year, and so far i am very please with it on my test box, so our other people i know.

I agree. I've just switched over to Windows 7 - very happy with it so far.

Do what dibble suggested! It`s excellent and legal! I`m very happy with it!

The problem with that is that we use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for video editing (the guy I live with needs it for work) which won't work with Vista... if 7 is even newer than Vista, I assume it won't work with that either?

Have a look on eBay for an OEM disc. Looks like there are some reasonable deals to be had.

This one, for example.

In any of the later versions of windows you can go to the properties of an application icon and go to compatability tab and choose to run as Windows XP, doesn't always work, but worth a go.

Full of problems I am - I'm in Chile so eBay is a no no. I don't half miss it!

To be honest, I can't risk it not working... I had a nightmare getting Adobe to install in the first place!

unless you could get some kind soul to buy one of those on ebay for you and rip it to an iso and send it you as a digital file?

rowanp25 14-05-2009 12:15 AM

or you could try open source?? ive been using ubuntu studio for about a year now with no probs what so ever! and wine (windows compatibility layer) adobe premier may well be a success too! saves money as its free, if vista aint working for ya your not losing anything n i recon overall ubuntus faster and more stable out of the box oh n i also think it can do vista better than windows can :)
