What, the kind of service the privatised railways and utilities provide?

Royal Mail do a very good job.

Like i wanna pay even more for having my mail delivered, no thanks!

I'd pay them more to have a reliable service etc.

They've been fine 99% of the time i have used them, i mainly use recorded though.

Royal Mail is good, it is how it is run thats bad....

Post, Water, Gas, Electricity should all be run by non-profit organisations, to bring you the best service at a reasonable cost. The reason that Royal Mail is struggling, is due to it's hands being tied on what services it can offer.

I for one, wouldn't want to have to go 'collect' my post.

Well the first time i used DHL they lost the parcel and it took months to get any compo. Like i say Royal Mail have never lost any of my parcels, they just charge too much for small boxes.

I, family and freinds have had nothing but bad experiences with Royal Mail. Having had a lot of experience with postal services around the world, they have proven themselves to be lazy and incompetent. They are poorly regarded abroad too. LOL.

Yup couldn't agree more with that statement. Useless and I was glad to see my old company moving their post / billing to UK Mail - circa 8 million customers.

It's just another piss poor company with links to a piss poor government.

Exactly. My sister worked for many years for Royal Mail and verifies the sloppiness of work and 'who cares' attitudes of employees. That may sound harsh, but as a nation we have to stop excusing stuff like this. Time that people do a good job and take pride in it again.

I made a complaint the other week about mail not being delivered to my door (thrown over the gate) and the answer was did I want it or not. Asked to speak to a manager and was told I was speaking to the manager. I basically said I look forward to the day when you are privatised and you can get into the real world. I have had mates who have had their post left in the wheely bin with the sorry we missed you it's in the bin note.. Err when the bin is outside it's normally out for collection. Guess what it was collected with the post..

Again fobbed off and given a speech how we all make mistakes (which I don't disagree with). However this was lazy amd arrogance at it's best. People say they get up at 4am to get to work and start early... Yeah and.... Plenty of other people do the same.

I'll buy a pint for myself when the Royal Mail is dragged into the real world or the delivery market opened up.

the problem is, the delivery market IS opened up, just Royal Mail are not allowed to be competitive with the other companies. So it has to rely on other work, which is less profitable.

UKMail, last time I looked, that got delivered to my door by the post office....

City Link (or whatever they are called now) are a nightmare to get a parcel from, DHL the same, and they are all expensive too.

My biggest gripe, about Royal Mail, is their handling charge, if an item hits customs and gets charged, otherwise, apart from a dopey postman, my experience has been pretty good.

I got a "signed for" letter yesterday, but because i didnt get to the door in time he had half filled in the red slip, he gave me a proper dirty look for wasting his time. what a prick !

Royal mail aren't too bad for letters and small packages but i find parcel force absolute gash, they are great at getting the parcel 90% to the door:thumbdown: I love the £13 handling charge, 13 bloody quid for scanning a barcode and sticking a label on :o

£13 also covers paying the customs charge, then they pass it on to you... currently I got a parcel from HK, I am going nuts, been in customs, this is it's 8th day... I know it isn't Parcel Forces fault, but I do think that they could hurry it up!

What do you mean it's not their fault? They are the ones applying the charges and taking their time over it afaik.

It isn't their fault, currently, as HMRC has not released the parcel to Parcelforce, as I believe, they have upped the percentage of parcels getting checked, from what I have been told, due to the high level of packages coming from HK, and not disclosing value on their invoices correctly....

Thats what Parcelforce have said, but I shall be ringing again today... not much point paying for EMS... when it takes a day from shop to the UK... and then 10 days to me... at least

I seem to think royal mail either works, or fails to miserably! Seems to be fine when i'm in the receive parcels but theres been times when they've delivered it next door without leaving a card, and my neighbour forgot to tell me for like a week! There was one instance of the postie delivering my parcel nextdoor without even knocking on my door 'because it didn't look like i was in' even though i was watching him through the window!! And for some reason if you try to arrange a redelivery on the website the nearest date you can have is 3 days away, but if you find the number for the post office the parcels gone back to you can have it re-delivered the next day:confused:

And i echo DCM's comments about customs, sometimes it goes through in hours, but other times you just get the feeling your parcels sat in the corner gathering dust!

Last time I had a delivery from Parcelforce they decided it was just too easy to leave it in the prior arranged safe place and instead just dropped it on a public footpath 10 yards from my door and walked off. Only realised when I checked online and it said delivered!

And yeah the handling charge is on top of the customs??

If they keep doing this people will just claim as no delivered.....

I remember buying some Hi Fi glass shelves and I couldn't have them in the end as the shop had 5 and 4 had been smashed by Parcel Force. Collection only, so I got my money back...
