known Spektrum DX3R-problem

I recently bought a Spektrum DX3R-radio second hand via this forum from a UK-bloke.
Price was very low to my amazement, so I was happy when my bid was accepted.

I also did some research on the net and downloaded the manual, read stuff about it ...
and also read about some early series which showed an error:
when switching between stored models ... (you can store 30 models on the DX3R ... who has 30 models?) ... the radio looses bind.
Relatively easy to quick-fix: "all" you have to do when switching models, is re-bind the receivers ... every time again.
(source: Spektrum)

I received my new radio and was a glad boy. The setting-up of this Radio is so easy, NICE!

Overhere in belgium, we do not run (offroad 1/10 ) 2WD and 4WD on different days.
If you drive in two categories you have to switch during the day
Also, I drive RC-cars because it's a fun thing to do with my kids, which use daddy's Radio, but with a moderat-throttle-setup
.. so this DX3R seemed perfect for me with the multiple setup-models available.

and so I tried setting -up different models into the radio .. and yes, you guessed it .. I seem to have received one of these faulty Radios.
Now I have to rebind the receiver EVERY time I swith a to another stored model.
If I go racing with one of my sons, that means I might have to rebind like 12 or 18 times a day!!!

AND the buyer NEVER mentioned this to me!

(He must have knwon this as the Radio losses the bind on EVERY model-switch i tried and tested ... and the radio showed different models stored when it arrived.)

Now, how am I going to get this fixed?

I do not have a buyer-receipt. And I'm almost sure my local dealer, which is the official Spektrum-suplier for Belgium, will not help me since I didn't buy it with them or without this buy-receipt.

On the Spektrum-site-page, regarding this error
http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/S...ProdID=SPM3100
a phone number is mentioned ... but no zone-number or country.
Is my assumption that this is an UK-company and UK-phone-number correct?

Is there anybody who might bring me into contact with the Spektrum-people to sort this out as phoning from Belgium isn't so cheap AND although I am able to write in English, it still is not my mother-language so it's not always so easy to explain myself.

all help mucho appreciated.

DX3R

Hi Lowie

Colin beat me to it, Horizon is the UK distrbutor for Spektrum they can fix the problem.

The offical statement:

Spektrum DX3R Product Bulletin

Horizon takes your satisfaction very seriously. While thousands of DX3Rs are in use with excellent results, it has come to our attention that a few DX3R transmitters are randomly “losing bind." After significant Investigation we have determined that for a small number of radios purchased when this system was first released, there is a possibility that bind information can be deleted when switching models within the transmitter (from say model one to model two) or during power up. Again, this issue is isolated to a small number of early radios. These radios carry ID codes ending in 0712, 0801, 0802.
A quick fix is to simply re-bind the receiver. Be assured that the issue will not, and cannot, affect your RF link during operation. If you are experiencing the “losing bind” with a radio that has one of these three codes and would like to have it repaired, please contact:

I just hope they can help me out.

But, anyway, I feal cheated by that guy that sold me the Radio, without telling me it was not functioning alright.
' should have guessed it. The price was very low.
Is there something that can be done about this? I mean, the guy sold it via the oOple-forum. I posted something allready in the feedback section.

In Flemish, we have an expression for this:
sending you from Pontius to Pilate
Why can't they just send it through to their own correct department??

anyway, hope sales answers we soon ... with some positive news.

Did you ever get this fixed through Horizon?

Ive had this issue a few times with mine which is an 0801, and emailed them today.

Lowie 17-08-2010 10:14 AM

fixed? oh yes and with excellent service.
All I had to to (which was explaned to me over the phone) was send the radio to Horizon UK and if I recall well I had my radio back within 10 days or less with no costs (even not for the shipment).

I should have mentioned that over here
