Which parts needed for ZX-5 RTR to SP

Hi I'm new.
I have been browsing today and am left with a question. If the LAW35 SP conversion kit is indeed discontinued (KYOSHO is accepting backorders) what are the parts needed to convert an RTR to an SP?
What are the advantages of the conversion?
I havent driven my new car yet and I havent raced in 15 years but after watching some of the video footage of the ERevo pulling wheelies I am certain I will be upgrading the motor. Nothing crazy, just halfway crazy.

I'm nearly 40 and am waiting for my new toy with the patience of a 6 year old.

Thanks

firstly welcome to oople!!!!!!the sp handles much better
in all aspects.it will now cost around£110 to convert in pieces.a good 2nd hand conversion can be had for arond half that.worth consider upgrading diffs if youre putting more power through transmission.loads of other guys will help you out.just keep asking.many thanks jez.

its quite possible that i will be breaking an fs for spares shortly.mainly into 3 bits;4x shocks,fs chassis and drivetrain, and sp suspension components.this would basically leave me with 2x diffs, some plastic parts, bearings and wheels.thanks jez.

I would certainly be interested in the sp suspension and axle bits.

Are the differentials different? I have already ordered ceramic balls.

I should mention that I am currently in California and will be moving to Virginia (usa) May 23rd.
I dont know that you would want to deal with the headache of shipping overseas.

After talking to Kyosho (because I blew a shock at 10 min into my first run), I am wondering if the upgrade is worthwhile. Seems the RTR version is a cheap knockoff of the real ZX-5. It even uses different quality plastic.
The RTR is at least as good as the turbo mid it is replacing and I might just leave it stock. If I ever get into racing again I'll buy a better kit.

I copied this from another forum.
"Well, here is a list of parts that should be complete as far as major components. You may need some spacers for the kit setup but you will probably have them in your parts anyway if you've been racing the Lazer.
You could omit the shock parts but the shock shafts and the cartridges are different. I think its best just to get a complete set of front and rears and be done with it so I put them on the bottom separate.

  1. Kyosho Front or Rear Stabilizer/Sway Bar 1.2mm
  2. Kyosho Special Blue Aluminum Front Suspension Holder
  3. Kyosho Dark Yellow Front Shock Spring Short #60
  4. Kyosho Dark Yellow Rear Shock Spring Long #60
  5. Kyosho Lower Shock Cartidge Set Triple Cap Shocks x2
  6. Kyosho Front Shock Shaft 42mm
  7. Kyosho Rear Shock Shaft 50mm
  8. Kyosho Rear Hub Type C
  9. Kyosho Rear Axel Aluminum Spacers
  10. Kyosho Knuckle and Hub Carriers
  11. Kyosho Lower Suspension Arm Set x2
  12. Kyosho Steering King Pin (ZX-5 SP)
  13. Kyosho Front Universal Swing Shafts - CVDs - 73mm
  14. Kyosho Rear Universal Swing Shafts - CVDs - 60.5mm
  15. Kyosho Cast Aluminum Motor Mount (ZX-5 SP)
  16. Kyosho Blue Aluminum Shock Caps (ZX-5 SP) x2 (I think)
  17. Kyosho Velvet Coat Triple Cap Shock Plastic Parts Set (ZX-5 SP) x2 (I think you need these)
  18. Kyosho White Front Wheel 56mm 4WD Special Offset (ZX-5 SP) (Necessary!)
Total should be around $190.00 (Man those conversion kits were a good deal!)

Body and Wing:
Kyosho Lazer ZX-5 SP Blast Wing
Kyosho Balkan Body (ZX-5 SP)

Complete Shock (I think it makes more sense to just get these as the upgrade is well woth it. They feel much smoother and are probably the best 10th scale shocks on the planet!!!

Kyosho Velvet Coat Triple Cap Shock Set Front - 30mm
Kyosho Velvet Coat Triple Cap Shock Set Rear - 42mm

I've wanted to make that list for a while! Just confirmed what I thought all along, that the conversion kit was a great deal! I hope you guys find this helpful!"
