rcracer 17-04-2009 09:52 PM

That looks a really good job mate , well done :)

GRIFF55 17-04-2009 09:54 PM

bloody nice first job there buddy:thumbsup: What masking did you use?

RichieLong 17-04-2009 09:57 PM

I had some spray masks off ebay for the tribal sides and under tray all the rest of the masking i used 4mm fine line tape. I did try some liquid mask but it would not cut nice, so i gave up with it.

that looks very good rich! Can't see any mistakes on it, you should go pro and start your own business and join the other painters out their like tel and blitzboy etc ;)

RichieLong 17-04-2009 10:03 PM

Thanks for that mike, theres a few mistakes i made but i suppose thats where you learn from. I am a spray painter by trade but one thing is painting road and rail vehicles but compared to using a small air brush to paint intricate work is a totally differnt ball game.

Certainly doesnt look like a first attempt - well done ! 9/10 !

blitzboy 18-04-2009 12:23 AM

good skills dude pleased you ve realised how hard it can be , what trouble did you have with the liquid mask mate , happy to give you some help buddy , excellent first shell

erkan 18-04-2009 12:23 AM

Looks great.. i suppose it isnt your first paintjob :)

i would prefer a bit simplier, like not make all your ideas on one small shell, stylish = win ;)

10/10 tho :D :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Tried to get hold of some parma liquidmask but the shop i was orderng the paint from was out of stock. So i ended up buying some german manufactured "Mig" i think from flea bay, it was a liquid mask for oil based paints. The price was right so i thought i wold give it a go. I gave the body shell 3 coats letting each coat fully dry between ach coat, with the mask going clear before apply the next. When i came to scalpel the mask it just tearing away from the blade edge and not leaing a smooth line, its as if the mask would not stick to the leaxan body.

One other mistake i made was that i thought i could do some black drop shadows round my tribal masks and some on the body contours before applying the blue pearl, but the only black i had was a water based craft paint from my local "Range" craft store. But after applying the drop shadow with this paint it did not stick at all to the lexan bosy shell i could wipe it off with my tak rag! So decided to do a drop shadow with faskolour chrome "Bad Idea" :cry:Thats the only thinkg i dont like about this job as i was getting used to what pressure to set my brush for fine lines and learning how to keep a steady accurate hand and the chrome was a bit in your face. One thing i found to be helpful was to sit down and realax and get comfotable as at first i was standing up! Thanks for your comments guys much appreciated. Blitz boy i am using a iwata revolution CR and am thinking of getting a pre set handle so i can adjust the paint low on the needle "fixing to a fine amout for doing fine lines" do you have a needle control knob on your brush or have you used the pre set handle. Next shell i do i am going to have a go at some Faslucent reds and purples. Maybe some flames. Hope to be racing at batley outdoors tommorow weather permitting.

blitzboy 18-04-2009 09:03 AM

rich i have end point adjust ment and air flow adjustment on my air brush , as for paint mask suonds like the mig stufff is nt the right stuff to use as its for oil paint , get some fasmask and do 4 coats minimum .as for fading then try faskolour tint that works a treat good luck on the next one mate , faslucents work well but back it with chrome dude cheers g

RichieLong 18-04-2009 09:05 AM

Do i back the faslucents with faskchrome or the alcad chrome. Thanks Rich.

blitzboy 18-04-2009 09:09 AM

i use custom colour chrome , never liked the alcad stuff myself , dont like the smell , faskolour paints faslucent is good with custom colour ,add about 10% mr muscle window cleaner to the faslucent to thin it just a bit more and apply 3 to 4 thin coats of faslucent then back with the chrome then back with black , comes out sweet
