Help needed with lipo - what do i need?

I've ordered a couple of packs of the intellect 4200 saddles and want to know what i need to use them? I already have an LRP pulsar 3 charger and will be running them with an lrp sphere. I've heard i will need a charging bag and balancer, is this correct, and what are they for?

the charging bag is just for safety precautions... some use them some don't just depends on how safe you feel with using lipo and know that you won't connect it up the wrong way or anything... I've never used one and charge the lipos while there in my cars as it's just easier and the only way your lipo is going to get damaged is if you run it flat or connect it up the wrong way or try charge it using a nimh setting on your charger or damage it in any obvious way.

The balancer is just for if you want to look after your lipos and have them last abit longer.

Thanks for the quick reply! Very helpful

I looked in the manual for the sphere and it has a lipo cut off so i wont need one of those, i'm sure the charger has settings for lipos too. I might look into getting a balancer though - can anyone reccomend one?

I've been using the Trackpower V-Balancer one for a while now. Dead simple, works for me!

I second those, they are very easy, you just connect it between your battery and charger and it balances your cells while you charge them

Hi

You Should Balance Your Lipos A Minimum Of 1ce Every 10-15charges As It Causes A Voltage Difference Between The Cells If This Gets Big Your Battery Will Underperform and in the wost case a over charged cell can explode! - NOT GOOD!

John

Thanks guys! Just had a thought - since they are saddle packs (two separate cells) couldn't i just charge each cell separately?

stormforce racing sell them ;) out of stock at current but seen them and they very similar if not identicle to few others out there just different case, performance wise they are very good.

I bought them off ebay, they just happened to be about the cheapest ones i could find that are on the brca approved list. I noticed they make a 6000mah version too but they weigh 100g more!

So is it ok to charge saddle cells separately or do i still need a balancer?

Mike Hudson 18-04-2009 11:56 AM

depends if your charger has the features to charge just one 3.7v lipo cell instead of 2 at once, would take longer to charge in between races! You don't have to have a balancer, but they are nice i'd just get a balancer or charge them as they are both at once
