new to lipo
 

The questions i would like answering are can i use Lipo batteries with a standard 540 motor and electronic speed controller and a fet servo or do i need brushless motors and new speed controller to work with Lipo batteries.

You can use lipo with any speedo or motor, just NEVER run the lipo flat or you'll kill it.
(don't forget you also need a lipo charger)

Thanks for that it confirmed what i thought. Could you tell me if there is any preference of Lipo batteries and chargers.

as col says, you can run them with any motor/speed controller just as soon as the car begins to feel the slightest bit slower STOP and turn the car off as if you run the lipo flat you will extremely damage it and also risk a lipo explosion/fire so make sure you take caution if your speedo doesn't have lipo cut off,

Get yourself a lipo charge bag first, thats the most important bit of kit and a novak smart stop

Are all our Lipo packs on the brca list 2s2p? Only the odd one says 2p but just wondered? I think I know what the P means but not sure!:blush:

LiPo technology has brought with it some extra terminology to indicate the way packs are configured. Generally LiPo packs are described as being, for example, a 2s1p pack. This means that there are two cells (2) in series (s) without additional row of cells in parallel (p).

i've never used a lipo bag, I don't like the idea of not being able to see the lipo, if it burst's into flames infront of you your going to get a big shock and have no time to do anything. Atleast when you see it your more likely to know if there's anything wrong and have abit of time to take appropriate action, novak spart stop isn't necessary aslong as you know to stop your car and switch it off when it first starts to slow down.

Oh, so are the robitronic and GM BRCA approved cells different layout internally than others then, as they are 2P or even 3P?? Does that require different chargers etc, for example the BC6 only checks the number in series doesn't it?

That is just info from the trakpower site dont know how it applies to other manufactures batteries. It needs einstein to work that out

Cant agree with any of this, If it bursts into flames it might be in your house when you are charging it, can you honestly say you watch it for the whole duration of the charge, I go for a cup of tea at least once. Also as the question comes from someone who is new to lipo.s would he notice anything wrong or the car slowing down if it was on a slower part of the track.
£10 for a bag £20 for a smart stop is cheaper than the damage that could result

If its going to blow up it will blow up and I for one would,nt want to try getting it out of my utility room before it went bang. The bag would do its work. I also got to question should you set your house on fire doing this would the insurance pay up since Brca advise that lipo,s should be charged in a lipo bag , by not using one you would not have taken reasonable precautions to prevent risk and the (ins co) would jump at any get out of paying reasons

lol, FYI, my post saying does anyone know was about how to charge 2s2p etc, not questioning using lipo sacks etc. Totally with you on that one!!

hi you carnt use a lipo battery with a brushed motor and esc you need a good brushless sytem like a traxxas vxl flying fast speed with lipo 7.4v and 11.1v 75mph to 82mph:thumbsup:

hi you can use a lipo battery but it gets very hot in the car with brushed motor you will kill the batterys without brushless sytem i tryed it in my rustler xl5 brushed motor and esc and my lipo batterys are 11.1v 4000mha after 5 mins ov running get the battery out ov your car and check it as my 4000mha battery last 30mins with my traxxas stampede vxl but in my brushed truck it did not work verygood and all peopl,e telling you to use them do not use with brushed motor or you will find out ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????? red hot lipo not good people tell you to reads the cells checker and dont take it to 3.3v each cell bullshit cos my battery worki fine in my brushless sytem but does not work in brushed motor or esc turn them on and watch the battery blow up trust me or it will set on fire lipo are dangerous if you do not use them right and if its for a truckor somethink like you need 20c to 35c i know because my lipo is 20c4000mha and there enough punch to the motor run for about 35 mins it need to be bigger punch 20c 35c for the out burst to the motor and i would like to race a batley club i need to know some stuff what batterys do they use and what mha batterys and what voltage does the battery have to be to race my rustler vxl brushless i got lots ov nimh batterys all different voltage 7.2v / 8.4v /9.6v/ 10.8v and i got lipo batterys as well 7.4v lipo and 3 11.1v what battery do people use there thanks simon

Michael there should be no problem using a Lipo with brushed equipment, as would using any form of DC power source. Esc's cannot tell that it's got lipos connected to it rather than nmih's it only knows that something is supplying a voltage to it.

As the others have said just make sure you've got some sort of voltage protector connected up just so that you don't take it to low.

Stampede please don't be afraid of using the full stop or comma keys now and again, your post is very hard to read.
